Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers throughout Michigan who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained.
This role has the potential to be mostly remote in nature, but candidates must be available for local and regional travel throughout the state of Michigan. Relocation assistance is not available for this role, so suitable candidates should reside in Michigan. This role may also require semi-regular visits to a near by customer office or facility. Candidates located within a commutable distance to our Walled Lake, MI office can expect to spend some working hours in our office with internal engineering teams.

As a Distribution Engineer, You can expect to:
- Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
- Be comfortable in a field setting: the role will require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages. You can anticipate that about 25-30% of your time will be spent collecting field data, and the remainder of your time will be spent working remotely, completing design work. You may also be asked to visit a customer office on an ad hoc basis.
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes; You will interact frequently with our customer
- Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
- Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial); Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, but minimum educational requirement for all levels is an Associate's degree in a technical field
- Mid-Level: a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience performing design engineering for electric utilities
- Senior Level: a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience performing design engineering for electric utilities
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel is anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments
- Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Candidates with experience specific to electric distribution design will be preferred
- Candidates possessing prior Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc or similar will be preferred
You Might Also Have Some previous experience with:
- Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS
- Structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
- Work management software and job estimating software.
- CAD tools

Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00
