What Will you Do?
The ATDM Fabrication Welding Instructor position will require a driven individual to teach in an accelerated, short-term training program. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to developing curriculum, delivering instruction and advising students. Instruction topics will include general instruction of fabrication welding processes, safety, best practices, application and hands on training. Limited travel may be required.
Shift Details
ATDM Instructors and Technicians are assigned shifts based on training needs. Shift assignments are based on business needs at the time of hiring, performance, and tenure. These positions require the flexibility to work all shifts as the program needs change. Your salary will include a shift differential based on the class times you are assigned to instruct. First shift classes start at 7:00 a.m. Second shift classes start at 3:00 p.m. Third shift classes start at 11:00 p.m.

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with various welding applications and materials such as SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW
- Five (5) years of welding fabrication experience.
- Knowledge of rigging and rigging safety.
- Competency in technical math and applications in the welding industry.
- Competency in blueprint interpretation and fabrication.
- High school diploma or GED and significant occupational experience in welding.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and order supplies and equipment using proper state procurement procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum and course design and development.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse faculty, staff and student population.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Familiar with American Welding Society standards and certifications.
- Five years of industry experience or experience as a Welding educator or two years’ experience as an Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Technician.
- Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching; ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of successful work experience as a team member.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student populations.
- Committed to quality instruction, scholarship, and academic integrity.
- Competency in blueprint interpretation
IALR will offer a salary of $77,600-$79,939, which includes shift differentials for second and third shift. Why is the position open?
Because of the growth of our campus through success in our many programs, we’re adding more instructors to our team. Due to the success of our Manufacturing Advancement team in executing the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program in partnership with the Department of the Navy, these are new positions funded by a federal contract. IALR will continue to request funding to continue and sustain growth.
