Within the Finance- Controller department we are hiring in three different sub tracks- SOX Compliance, Corporate Accounting and Bank Accounting and Bank Regulatory Reporting. Within all of these tracks in the Controller department, there will be inspiring opportunities that welcome you into the Schwab culture and immerse you into your role. The interactive program focuses on a variety of opportunities which feature a business track project, an intern cohort project, learning activities, volunteering in the community, a dedicated intern leader, networking, and exploring your unique personal strengths!
SOX Compliance Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Office (SCO’s) supports Schwab’s mission by assessing controls addressing the completeness and accuracy of Schwab’s financial reporting so the company can meet the needs of our clients while addressing the protection of client assets. The intern will have a unique opportunity to split their internship with the SCO’s Business Process and IT testing specialists to allow them to explore multiple areas of the assessment and to discover the areas in which they excel and that they most enjoy. They will partner with members of the SCO to conduct walkthrough meetings, to perform testing and issue analysis, and to provide testing results. Through these steps, the intern will experience the day-to-day activities of full-time employees to enable them to determine whether they would like to start their career with Schwab and on the SCO.
Corporate Accounting
The Corporate Accounting department is responsible for handling financial close and reporting activities for the Company on a US GAAP basis. Interns will work with the team to learn about the general ledger system, maintaining and updating the data to keep the system current. They will work on balance sheet reconciliations including the reconciliation tool, assist with month end and quarter end reporting and settlement processes, and work on Ad hoc projects as needed.
Bank Accounting and Bank Regulatory Reporting This role allows you to gain exposure into 4 main departments including: Accounting Policy, Bank Accounting, Bank Regulatory Reporting, and SEC reporting. Participation and interaction with the staff of these functional areas will help develop fundamental skills and broaden the candidate’s perspective of the critical role accountants and finance professionals play in the day-to-day operations of a leading investment services firm like Schwab. Gain meaningful experience with period close functions of our 3 banking entities, assist in preparing SEC disclosures for the consolidated company’s 10-Q quarterly reports, assist in preparing the Company’s many bank-regulatory reports and work side by side with accounting experts researching GAAP technical issues.

Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in a university program and be able to start full-time employment between August 2025-September 2026.
- Ability to work full time (40 hours) and be on-site at one of the Schwab locations for the duration of the 9-week program (June 9 to August 8, 2025)
Preferred Qualifications
- Earning a bachelors degree or higher in Accounting, Information Systems, or Information Technology
- Experience or interest in financial technology (SQL or data analytics)
- Curiosity to learn how to assess the design and operating effectiveness of business and IT controls
- Superior communication skills (written and verbal)
- Resourcefulness and flexibility, who enjoy working through cross-functional partnerships and collaboration to achieve a common purpose
- An innovative and questioning demeanor, who constantly look for better ways to do things, have a passion for service, and seek to exceed client expectations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal business partners
- Excellent organizational skills, enabling one to manage multiple priorities and projects, while meeting deadlines
- Earning a bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting,
Target Total Compensation - $29-34/hour
