The Role
In this high visibility role, the Trade Compliance Manager leads and implements the design, deployment and maintenance of the effective MI Trade Compliance Program in China thus enabling the Markem-Imaje businesses and functions as well as selected business partners to comply with relevant export, import and customs compliance laws and regulations under the jurisdictions of the countries MI operates in, including those of the United States, the European Union, and individual countries. As part of the Global Trade and General Compliance Team, this role closely cooperates with Supply Chain, Development, Finance, Sales as well as the Dover and Markem-Imaje Law Department.
What you will do:
- Classify products, software and technology as required for import and export compliance including assigning of HS numbers, export classification numbers, determining origin, valuation etc.
- Monitor and interpret all relevant customs and export compliance laws and regulations, adapting the company's policies and procedures as required and adapting accordingly the way the company operates including providing internal training and knowledge sharing
- Create and deliver trainings linked to global and/or regional trade compliance requirements, helps in the preparation of training material and records training participation
- Plan, manage and lead projects and special assignments at a regional/country specific and global level to build and strengthen the Global Trade Compliance Program
- Support and execute the customs broker management program including post or pre-entry checks, ensuring KPIs are achieved and compliance is maintained.
- Conduct internal reviews to identify risks. Develop corrective action plans based on findings and follow actions through until completed. Continuously assess the compliance risk of the country/region and support the wider Compliance Risk Assessment process.
- Work closely with global, regional, and in-country supply chain teams to create processes to ensure compliant and business driven solutions
- Ensure recordkeeping compliance in line with relevant policies and procedures
- Performs external benchmarking with competition and networking with trade/industry groups to identify and implement best practices for compliance programs
- Develop working relationships with government agencies in region where regulatory oversite is in place for the company / industry.
- Manage and develop the skills of the Trade Compliance Champions in China
Key Competencies:
- Working knowledge of the following regulations: regional import/export regulations, HS and ECCN classification, product origin, customs valuation, Free Trade Agreements, including but not limited to US EAR and/or EU Dual-Use regulations
- Knowledge of effective Corporate Trade Compliance Programs
- A team player with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Confident, ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
- Good change management agent, open-minded, result-oriented, pro-active, good listener
- Business focused, highly detail oriented/analytical, and adaptive to change
- Works well under pressure and has the ability to set priorities, drives actions until complete, quality-oriented approach of work
- Chemical classification and experience in chemical controls a plus
- SAP knowledge and user experience is a plus
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ethical mindset, that completely adheres to all relevant compliance policies, including Code of Ethics and Conduct
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, Fluent English language skills a must, other languages a plus
What you need to have:
- Degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, Process/Industrial Engineering or related field/equivalent qualification.
- 7-10 years of trade compliance background in a fast pace multinational organization.
