Do you like solving problems, no matter how large or how complex? Our Avionics and Systems Engineering group is offering challenging work to support our customers across multiple military aircraft. The Senior Materials Engineer will play a key role in driving the adoption of AM tools, materials, and technologies by the F-16 System Program Office (SPO). As an AM subject matter expert, you will collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to develop and implement a robust framework that enables the seamless incorporation and certification of AM technologies for aircraft components.
Role and Responsibilities:
As part of a team, you will:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive framework for integrating additive manufacturing into existing processes
- Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams to understand project requirements and constraints
- Conduct thorough evaluations of AM materials and components, ensuring compliance with airworthiness standards and specifications
- Provide expertise in selecting, testing, and validating materials suitable for additive manufacturing applications
- Collaborate with stakeholders to establish protocols for assessing the performance, reliability, and durability of AM components
- Stay informed of industry advancements in additive manufacturing and materials engineering to continuously advance KBR’s and customer knowledge
- Lead training programs to educate Air Force stakeholders on the evaluation and integration of AM parts

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years related experience, with average experience of 15+ years.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Proven track record of successfully implementing additive manufacturing processes
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance. US citizenship is required
Desired Experience:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Masters in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with metal additive manufacturing
- Experience with metallographic specimen preparation techniques and materials characterization techniques, including polishing/etching, optical microscopy, mechanical testing (i.e. hardness, tensile testing, creep, etc.), SEM/EBSD, XRD, machine shop technology
- Deep understanding of HIP/Heat Treatment of Additive Manufactured metals
- Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
- Expertise in evaluating materials for airworthiness and regulatory compliance
- Experience with Additive hardware qualification and acceptance
- Experience in hardware manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations
