ADAPP is seeking a Part-Time (21 hours) Community Coalition Organizer for the Throggs Neck Community Action Partnership (TNCAP). TNCAP is a community-based coalition mobilizing key leaders and residents to implement environmental strategies to reduce and prevent underage drinking and substance use in the Northeast (Throggs Neck) section of the Bronx. This dynamic position plays a key role in developing meaningful community-wide, evidence-based environmental strategies directly linked to the risk and protective factors related to reduce substance use among youth and adults. Duties of the Community Coalition Organizer include needs assessment, surveys, strategic planning including a logic model, action plan and cultural responsiveness plan, health disparities impact statement, outcome data, member recruitment and retention, coordination of coalition meetings, implementation of initiatives, and assisting with reporting requirements for federal, state, and local funders. Other duties include managing coalition communications, planning and implementing substance use prevention campaigns, and ensuring that the coalition is meeting the goals of the grant by monitoring progress and documenting outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee and execute the day-to-day operations of the coalition to ensure fidelity of activities and ensure all activities meet grant requirements
- Oversee and implement all deliverables as outlined in the grant workplan
- Act as the liaison and interact with community members and organizations
- Prepare proposals and grants
- Develop and monitor the projects’ activities
- Monitor grant reporting
- Organize monthly meetings, inform members, develop the agendas, and compile minutes
- Conduct trainings for the community as needed
- Monitor and provide content for the coalition’s Facebook page and other social media platforms
- Report to the Project Director/Special Projects Manager and perform other duties as assigned as needed.
Necessary Skills:
- Knowledge of substance abuse prevention strategies
- Knowledge of community organizing and community coalition work
- Ability to work with diverse individuals from the community, i.e., legislators, schools, faith, civic organizations, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work some evenings and attend meetings outside of normal workday, as required
- Experience working with community or public health organizations
- Knowledge of Facebook and other social media platforms
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and a car to travel to and from community events and work-related activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Health, Public Health, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years’ work experience working with coalitions.
- Strong writing and speaking skills, organizational skills, and the ability to interact with community members.
- Must have familiarity with the Throggs Neck Section of the Bronx
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Knowledge of federal and state substance use prevention grants a plus.
Travel is required to attend meetings and training sessions. Some out-of-state travel may be required as well as work outside normal business hours at night or on weekends to run meetings, attend events and/or trainings.
