SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provide leadership in the design, implementation and management large-scale voice and data radio systems and networks within the Amtrak infrastructure in support of Train Operations, Safety and Security.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide operational support for all voice and data radio systems and serve as a lead engineer for new system installations.
- Verify all work on related systems fully match the corporate standards and system requirements.
- Review and maintain operational service level agreements, maintenance support issues, warranties, and support contracts for voice and data radio systems.
- Research, review and maintain existing and new FCC radio licenses to ensure they comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Assist in project management during the installation of new voice and data radio systems.
- Provide direction and technical assistance directly to force account during the installation and periodic maintenance of voice and data radio systems.
- Develop maintenance policies and instructions for radio infrastructure
- Interface with Amtrak departments, customers and contractor/vendor team members
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with seven years relevant experience or eleven years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in design, installation and maintenance of voice and data radio infrastructure.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in technical support and working with project delivery personnel.
- Experience working with diverse voice and data radio technologies and protocols
- Must have demonstrated experience in radio system support.
- Broad knowledge and thorough understanding of various RF and telecommunications technologies.
- Must have experience with FCC licensing and antenna structure permitting requirements.
- Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to relate complex technical issues to both technical and no-technical staff.
- Must be proficient at using Microsoft Visio and Office products to document all projects and systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering with nine years relevant experience or thirteen years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of various IP networking technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs in an operating environment.

The salary/hourly range is $124,600-$161,352. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
