You will be responsible for managing and growing the Fisheries Business Class for the Northeast. This role is a leader of the growing Northeast Fisheries Business Class will partner with the Water Business Group Manager, Market Sector and Client Development Leaders for development and implementation of technical and business development strategies for the area Fisheries Business Class and as support for the National Fisheries Business class. Clients and projects in the fisheries business class are broad and include master planning, design, permitting and construction for our three fisheries business class technical areas; fisheries ecohydraulics (passage and restoration), fisheries design center (hatchery and screening design), and fisheries sciences. Your primary duties will include pursuing and securing business opportunities with new and existing clients, identifying and hiring strategic staff, mentoring staff, delivering projects, acting as a project manager on key projects and working with fisheries project managers on scope of work, budgets and contracts, conducting quality control reviews, provide project management and client communications, assisting with marketing and proposals, and participate in actively growing the business portfolio. Providing leadership and sharing technical expertise through mentoring, directing, and delegating to staff is a key component of the role as is maintaining focus on the execution of HDR’s growth strategy.
As the Fisheries Business Class Lead (BCL) you will interface with regional and national technology leaders to advance local capabilities and may support national pursuits and project delivery efforts related to their expertise. Coordinate with the Fisheries Business Class Director on strategic pursuits including staffing and innovative approaches. Specifically, you will support project teams to pursue and complete projects including planning, design, and construction of facilities, fish passage, and aquatic biology. You will also be expected to engage in industry groups and forums and take leadership roles in such organizations, including committee participation and regular submission of conference abstracts/proceedings.
Primary Responsibilities
We'll count on you to participate and lead in the following areas:
- Staff Development
- Select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel.
- Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
- Take responsibility for operations of production section including utilization, morale, quality control and marketing support.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
- Mentor and support fisheries business class group leaders, engineers and junior staff
- Technical Excellence
- Function as a project manager and lead critical area and regional projects.
- Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products.
- See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management.
- Participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations.
- Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing, project managers, and project delivery staff.
- Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews.
- Conduct QC reviews where appropriate, or assist technical teams in finding appropriate reviewers.
- Marketing and Strategy
- Be directly involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews.
- Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation.
- Drive area initiatives that are relative to the business class.
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with 5 or more years in one aspect of fisheries design, passage, or aquatic science
- Master's degree is a plus as is 10+ years of experience in fisheries systems
- Active engagement in professional or industry organizations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand both locally and nationally
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- Ability to travel; must be in each office with fisheries staff at least once per year and be present for leadership and key meetings approximately 1-2 times per month.
