Connecticut Transportation Department Leader
Primary Responsibilities
HDR has an exceptional opportunity for a Connecticut Transportation Department Leader for our Transportation Business Group. Based in our Connecticut office, the Department Lead will provide oversight and direction of staff in the Connecticut area. This position is primarily an operational position ensuring we are providing timely and quality service on projects to our clients, on schedule and on budget, while meeting HDR internal financial goals. On projects, Department Leader will frequently take the role Project Director or Project Principal and be in regular communication with the client and our project management team to ensure successful project delivery. This will require coordination with multiple offices and with mega projects throughout the company. Project Reviews are required by Department Leaders to identify and mitigate risks to projects. Secondarily the Department Leader will work with our New England Transportation, Client Managers and Pursuit Champions to identify and pursue new opportunities to grow the business. These marketing responsibilities will include “Go/No Go” decisions, client meetings, proposals, and positioning with clients within New England.
The Department Leader will coordinate communication with area, regional, and companywide Business Class and Market Sector Leads. Some of the duties would be to provide input regarding training and professional development; identify and recruit key hires to grow our Connecticut office; promote and champion HDR policies and procedures, particularly QA/QC; promote staff professional development; provide staff mentoring to senior staff within the Department; conduct staff performance evaluations; and determine staff compensation. This position will report to the New England Transportation Business Group Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- The qualified applicant will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering,
- PE license in CT and able to obtain the other states through reciprocity.
- Position requires a minimum of 20 years of experience working on and managing large multidiscipline, multi-stakeholder projects in New England.
- Experience, knowledge and relationships with municipal and DOT markets required, preferably CTDOT. Candidates should have experience managing and leading large teams.
- Candidates must be able to work cooperatively with professionals from other disciplines, senior and junior staff, clients, project managers, business development professionals, and operational leadership.
- Commitment to safety and quality procedures required. Proven, strong communication skills; critical thinking; problem-solving creativity; and flexibility required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- A minimum of 10 years experience
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
