The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, hardware integration, and electronic modules, pedestal and power and cooling systems. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The Radar Design Department is seeking a Principal Engineer to serve as the LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense) P3I/ESM Program Lead. LTAMDS is a recent Raytheon Technologies franchise program that will deliver a next generation radar with 360-degree visibility to defeat advanced threats including hypersonic weapons.
The Program Lead will be directly responsible for interfacing between the Program Management Office (PMO) and the Radar IPT for the Pre-Planned Product Improvement (P3I) and all Engineering Services Memorandum (ESM) contracts. The P3I and ESM contracts span multiple years and include scope critical to supporting a Milestone C decision from the customer, as well as future growth. The Program Lead will be responsible for managing the cost, scope, and schedule across multiple functions and disciplines within the Radar IPT. The Program Lead will drive Risk and Opportunity Management activities to ensure predictable financial performance. This role requires establishing and maintaining an effective relationship with internal and external programmatic stakeholders, including the IPT Leads, Operations & Supply Chain, Quality, Lifecycle Engineering, Chief Engineers, and Engineering Finance. Strong demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills are required to help drive the team to meet program milestones.
The P3I/ESM Program Lead will be responsible to interface with the broader LTAMDS team to ensure key program milestones are met on time and within budget. Contract interdependencies will be identified and executed to ensure that future capabilities and growth are achieved. Key requirements for this position include proven cross functional coordination, problem-solving and communication skills, and experience executing EVMS and Risk and Opportunity Management practices. Individuals will interface primarily with other mechanical and electrical engineers but will often be required to collaborate with cross-functional teams, program offices, and customers.
This Principal Mechanical Engineer role will be based in Marlborough, MA or Tewksbury, MA and is an onsite role. At least part-time on-site support will be required in Tewksbury, MA.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Interface with the Program Management Office as the Radar IPT representative for the P3I and ESM contracts
Manage a cross functional team including members from Engineering, Operations, Integrated Supply Chain, and Quality through hardware development and production activities
Drive robust Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Risk & Opportunity Management practices to ensure predictable Estimate at Complete (EAC) performance
Manage scope, budget, and schedule as the Radar IPT Control Account Manager (CAM)
Coordinate across the Radar product teams to minimize scope growth while achieving contract requirements and milestones
Support regular program status reviews to both Engineering Leadership and Program Leadership
Lead proposal activities as required to support future capabilities and growth
Work with minimal direction or supervision, while exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment
Interact with Senior Leadership and external customers on significant program issues that require coordination between organizations
A PhD can account for 5 years of experience as required for this position.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in hardware design
Experience leading cross functional teams
Experience in leadership positions
Knowledge of Earned Value Management, Risk and Opportunity Management, and other program management skills
Experience presenting challenging programmatic and technical issues to Senior Leadership
Experience preparing both technical and cost proposals
Ability to travel domestically in support of Program
An active and in-scope DoD US security clearance

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
