Caterpillar Inc. seeks Controls Sys Sr. Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Design, develop, integrate, and test machine electronic control components and systems for use in Large Mining and Small Off-Highway Truck applications. Support updates and improvements for current production models as well as working on projects to develop and integrate the latest electronic architectures and technologies onto Caterpillar Mining Machines. Create technical specification and integration documentation for machine systems components, ECM, and software. Work with the machine's system and sub-system teams to resolve system design and integration issues during development and production. Support and communication of software releases, including documentation required by field follow and/or customers for successfully updating software, wiring, and components. Report technical status to related Cat Electronics teams in gateway and stakeholder updates. Coordinate software development activities and ensure they are completed on schedule. Test plan development and system/software validation activities. Perform complex analysis work, identify design problems, and resolve problems. Transit from individual contributor to team leadership, focusing on technical delivery. Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. Communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may affect the project team and its delivery of the project, as well as negotiations with suppliers, leveraging new technologies, warranty, costs, sales, and customer perception. Demonstrate excellent analytical skills and a mastery of control system engineering concepts. Meet goals for cost, reliability, and performance, and manage multiple priorities. Keep up to date on changing customer needs as projects progress, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on projects to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians. Expect to bear significant responsibility for the completion of a project with a major focus on delivery. REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5 Years of experience in embedded control system development or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or a related field and 2 Years of experience in embedded control system development or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Electrical/electronic control systems. (2) Developing machine control requirements and specifications; (3) CAN, J1939 and other data link communications; (4) Modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink in an embedded software environment; (5) Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) Simulation and Validation tools and processes; and (6) Developing embedded real-time systems for mobile, earthmoving, agricultural, industrial, or off-highway applications.
