HDR is seeking a Communications Assistant to join our team and support communications and engagement in the resources, specifically the transmission line, markets throughout the Midwest. Our Strategic Communications program is a global team of communicators who are passionate about putting people first in planning and infrastructure. As a full-service community engagement and creative practice, we develop and implement ideas to bring people together in projects of every size and sector, fostering understanding and building more connected, equitable, and sustainable communities.
This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who is passionate about community engagement, enjoys collaboration, and is excited about supporting strategic communications and public engagement initiatives for resource and power projects. As a Communications Assistant, you will coordinate with the Minnesota-Wisconsin Strategic Communications team to develop, execute, and manage community engagement and communications activities on a variety of power projects.
As Strategic Communications professionals, we work with our client’s brand – not HDR – to strengthen our client’s messaging and engagement strategies for a program, initiative, or project.
Responsibilities:
In the role of a Communications Assistant, we'll count on you to:
- Public Engagement: Lead the coordination of both formal and informal public meetings, hearings, open houses, workshops, and other stakeholder events.
- Meeting Logistics: Organize and manage all logistics for meetings to ensure smooth operations and successful event execution.
- Task Coordination: Create a detailed workback schedule to ensure project tasks stay on track and deadlines are met efficiently. Maintain clear notes, assign tasks with deadlines, and monitor progress. Follow up regularly to keep everything on schedule and stay organized to ensure accountability across the team.
- Outreach Materials: Create clear, compelling messages tailored to diverse audiences and coordinate the production and distribution of outreach materials. Ensure consistency and quality across newsletters, websites, presentations, advertisements, door hangers, press releases, and mailings.
- Stakeholder Identification & Database Management: Lead stakeholder identification and management, develop and maintain distribution lists, track attendance and comments in the project database for effective outreach, responding to public comments.
- Engagement Strategy: Collaborate with the team to create a comprehensive communications plan that outlines the strategy, key messages, target audiences, and timelines, ensuring alignment with project goals and consistent execution across all outreach efforts.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, including creative staff, coordinator staff, and technical colleagues, to achieve project goals. This includes Information gathering, note taking, and assisting project managers at project meetings.
- Client Strategy & Support: Collaborate with HDR clients to develop, refine, and implement stakeholder and public outreach strategies that align with project goals and community needs.
- Travel: Willingness to travel to project locations as needed, including occasional overnight stays, to support engagement efforts on-site.
