Job Description Summary
This posting is for a SkillBridge internship in the Instrumentation Engineering and Operations (IEO) organization within the Test Systems Engineering (TSE) department at GE Aerospace. The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive dutyto focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aviation as a Skill Bridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aviation, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.
Job Description
This posting for starting your SkillBridge internship. Your internship may last longer than the Quarter depending on your command. Please apply within 4 months of your anticipated program start date.Candidates for this internship may support any of TSE’s Instrumentation Engineering and Operations groups:
Applied and Separable Instrumentation Design
- Design instrumentation application solution based on customer needs.
- Use mechanical engineering tools and processes to verify designs (separable)
- Take designs through GE’s design review process
- Create instrumentation application work instructions
- Follow application through the instrumentation shop and support technicians as needed
Test Measurement Operations
- Active support on running tests
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and package applicable test equipment for deployment to support test
- Integrate test equipment into test cell or site
- Monitor application test equipment
- Provide test data collection
- Accomplish transfer and storage of engine test data
- Teardown test equipment when test completes
- Build up and preparation of instrumentation technology for
- Tip timing
- Turbomachinery clearance measurement
- Engine Emissions
- Intelligent Sensors
- Advanced Test Technology Sensor Development
Essential Functions:
- Interface with internal and external organizations
- Stay informed of and follow all EHS, quality, and compliance procedures
- Contribute and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Qualifications / Requirements:
Active Military personnel
Desired Skills / Experience:
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer to navigate Online documents, drawings, and instructions.
- Prior experience working in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to understand engineering drawings and schematics
- Previous experience with microelectronic assembly, troubleshooting, and repair
- Ability to operate electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and signal generators
- Problem-solving skills
