DreamWorks Animation has an exciting new opportunity for a VFX Supervisor to join its
team based in Glendale, CA. This position is covered by the Animation Guild.
At DreamWorks Animation Television, our VFX Supervisor works closely with the Global VFX Supervisor and show Creative Leadership to supervise and achieve the desired look of the project as it relates to lighting, compositing and FX. As a creative peer to the Production Designer, HoCA, and Head of Layout, the VFX Supervisor is responsible for the execution of the visual goals established by the Director and Production Designer within the budget and parameters set by Producer(s) and the Studio. The VFX Supervisor ensures that all Effects processes align with the production schedule, technical specifications and creative vision of the show leadership and studio pipeline.

Job Description
“What would you say you do here?”
- Consult with Director, Producer(s), and Production Designer to develop the creative vision that satisfies the artistic goals within studio expectations.
- Responsible for an “across all” departmental show strategy for making the film with the Producer(s) and ensuring that the CG departments are working within the schedule and budget.
- Accountable for the execution and approval of the appointed creative work in the CG departments based on the aesthetic established by the Production Designer.
- Responsible for oversight and management of teams of artists, leads, and supervisors largely populated with partner studio personnel.
- Responsible for the effective complexity management within budget parameters throughout the production.
- Prepares materials for launch sessions and reviews with the Production Designer and Director.
- Learn and work within the DreamWorks HUB Pipeline.
- Collaborate with the DreamWorks HUB team and partner studios to establish the look and presets for environment and character lighting.
- Work with the HUB team and partner studio to ensure that CG departments are provided with clear communication on vision, expectations, and process to achieve aesthetic goals and improve efficiency.
- Gives feedback to artists at our partner studios in notes and direct instruction as needed.
- Provides directions in Design Packs and review notes during check-ins for the asset lighting stage of the pipeline.
- Develop creative compositing setups as required.
- Uphold established render guidelines in production shots.
- Attend early morning and/or evening video conference calls with partner studios to provide direction and launch artists on shots/sequences/reels.
- Extended travel to our international Partner Studio(s) for pipeline training, team management, and milestone launches is mandatory.
Qualifications
“What do I need to have in order to do this job?”
- Must have recent leadership experience on a feature quality project and should have recently held a supervisory position managing work at an outsource studio.
- Strong knowledge of Maya, V-Ray, Nuke and Houdini, Flow (Shotgrid) and RV review workflows.
- Should have experience with and become comfortable with managing remote teams at our partner studios.
- Should be comfortable and have recent experience with traveling to partner studios internationally.
- Must have worked at a studio that uses industry standard nonproprietary 3rd party software and tools within the last 2 years.
- Should have strong leadership and communication skills; ability to communicate complex creative and technical issues to colleagues and partner studios.
- Strong artistic, technical and visual storytelling skills including a solid understanding of color, contrast, and lighting design.
- Strong understanding of the production process for a TV series, Special and/or Feature.
- Must be a great teammate, who genuinely enjoys working with others.
- Should be comfortable adapting to a production pipeline that is already in place.
- Must be highly organized and have strong time-management skills.
- Should have up to date knowledge of VFX tools, workflows and new technologies.
- Extensive hands-on experience with production tools and pipelines.
- Extensive experience with supervising international vendor studios.
“What can I offer?”
- Knowledge of Yeti, Xgen, Phoenix for Maya and Bifrost software.
- Python scripting experience.
- Ideally 10 or more years of experience in television animation, feature animation, VFX, and/or video games.
