The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
We are looking for an Associate or Software Engineer that enjoys collaborating with teammates solving challenging problems every day. Our team is responsible for developing innovative solutions to meet the changing needs of our customers within the Coverage Determination software product. We are currently seeking a Java Engineer with expertise in microservice API development using Spring Boot to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help modernize and improve our systems, work with cutting-edge technologies, drive change, and contribute to the success of our organization.
Role Overview:
As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, testing and implementing changes in a Java application leveraging the Spring Boot framework with a focus on rules development. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop robust and scalable solutions. In addition to technical expertise, you will need strong interpersonal skills and a data-driven mindset to collaborate effectively and make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality Java APIs
- Collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, architects and other team members to build scalable and performant systems that meet our business needs.
- Translate business rules into executable code, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Optimize application performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement appropriate solutions.
- Contribute to the overall system design and architecture to ensure scalability and maintainability.
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high-quality code standards.
- Ensure code quality by thoroughly testing your code with a shift left mentality.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and incorporate them into development processes.
- Drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of innovation within the team.
- Mentor more junior engineers on the team
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of software engineering experience
- Proficiency in software engineering languages and tools, including Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful services design and development
- A background in business operations and strategies, with a focus on business IT
- A history of translating client requirements into technical designs
- Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset
- Collaboration, adaptability, flexibility and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally distributed development team
- Strong oral and written communication skills - and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers
- A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs
- An understanding of how modifications affect different parts of a system and an ability to explain your decision-making process to non-engineers
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
What will set you apart for this role:
- Experience working in Java with the Spring Boot Framework
- Experience with personal lines insurance products such as Personal Auto Insurance
- Experience developing performant cloud applications using the microservice pattern
- Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS, Datadog, Splunk, Rancher).
