Position Summary:
The role of the Production Manager will be to ensure the cost-effective performance of people and capital resources required to operate a group of manufacturing departments. This individual will manage the Company’s spare parts, service and repairs and warranty support through supervision, training, budget, planning, improved customer satisfaction and overall achievement of strategic goals and growth plans. This position is located onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has Supervisory duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the machining production activity within the assigned manufacturing departments to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Productivity objectives on a day to day basis.
- Manages all safety concerns; ensure employees use prescribed safe work methods and utilise proper safety equipment
- Manages activities related to machining manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, documentation control and support Work, Health and Safety for production operations
- Accomplish objectives by communicating job expectations to machining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; Hold direct reports accountable for their performance; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates machining manufacturing activities with all other Functional Departments of the organization.
- Participate in the development and implementation of cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Leads the implementation of cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives and promotes a collaborative work environment
- Facilitate continuous improvement and 5S activities for assigned manufacturing departments.
- Prepare reports and be prepared to discuss with management the status of departmental and/ or individual metrics, workload and current projects.
- Work in close coordination with Supply Chain and Purchasing to ensure smooth inventory management and adherence to working capital related KPI’s
- Prepare detailed work instructions per ISO standards.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required with 5+ years of direct Supervisory experience.
- Strong machining background and machining work experience in LEAN Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications and manuals.
- Excellent Supervisory skills; must be able to plan, organize and schedule work among employees; prepare and evaluate department records and reports; communicate effectively with employees, management staff and all other departments, as necessary.
- Excellent computer skills, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experienced facilitator and proven track record of Lean/5S implementation.
- Familiarity of working within an ISO regulated requirement is preferred.
- Familiarity with precision shop inspection tools and gauges is preferred.
