Searching for a Full-time Experienced Ship Handling and Bridge Resource Manager Subject Matter Expert to support Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) training in San Diego, CA
In this role, will serve as our principal Navigation and C5I (Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Cyber and Intelligence) System Engineering Manager (SEM) providing Master-Level Maneuvering and Ship handling training and Senior level mentorship to U.S. Navy Commanding Officers, Surface Warfare Officers and Enlisted Bridge Navigation Watchstanders who are participating in Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Basic Ship Handling (BSH), Officer of the Deck Capstone LCS Crew certification training, and other courses as required in LCS Training Facility (LTF) Navigation subject areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develops; organizes; and conducts Navigation training and educational programs for personnel assigned to Littoral Combat Ships.
- Conduct conventional knowledge-based classroom teaching and performance / scenario-based laboratory training in a simulator environment.
- Serve as a Senior Instructor Mentor to train LCS sailors in Bridge Resource Management, LCS Navigation system capabilities and limitations, shipboard planning and execution, and communications.
- When required, the candidate would provide subject matter expertise in support of curriculum development for LCS courses and policy development supporting Ship handling and navigation training.
- Must be prepared to support the Train to Qualify (T2Q) and Train to Certify (T2C) process utilizing shore-based trainer requiring dynamic assessment of watchstanders during integrated scenarios.
- Provide trusted advice and technical assistance regarding training requirements and curriculum analysis, design development, implementation, instruction, and assessment in Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship handling related topics to students at all levels of the training spectrum.
- Develops; tests; maintains; and delivers complex Navigation training programs and related materials in support of training objectives. Topics include Ship Handling Fundamentals, Pilot/CO/OOD Relationship, Voyage Planning and Emergency Situations, Navigation Case Studies, International and Inland Rules of the Road, and Special Evolutions.
- Prepares, reviews, and customizes curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides in support of traditional classroom teaching.
- Supports Formal Course Reviews and curriculum updates; conducts training gap analysis and provides formal feedback / recommendations for Course improvement.
- Establishes and reviews course content and objectives.
- Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Commanding Officer of a US Navy Vessel. operational and C5I systems; specifically, ship design, integration/maintenance, warfare systems/platform experience with carriers, DDGs, CGs, LCS, large deck, smaller amphibious ships or land based test sites.
- Bachelor’s Degree and 12+ years experience. Equivalent combination of education technical certifications, training, or work/military experience will be considered as well.
- U.S. Citizenship and Active Secret Security Clearance are required.
- Expert knowledge of Navigation Rules, both International and U.S. Inland.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Surface Ship Navigation Department Organization and Regulations Manual (NAVDORM), standard Navigation commands, Maritime training and education best practices, U.S. Navy Surface ship maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes.
- Must possess a detailed understanding of US Navy system architecture and navigation systems across logical, functional, hardware, software components.
- Experience with Voyage Management System (VMS)/Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) navigation suite and Advanced Radar Plotting Aid
- Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.
- Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Experience working dynamic programs with fluctuating scope and integrated coordination of multiple engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. or Advanced Degree in a related discipline desired but not required.
- Experience as a Master/Afloat Training Specialist in support of CSCS/TACTRAGRU/ATG is a significant plus.

Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
