Via Gelato is an award-winning gelato/ice cream shop located in Kaimuki, Honolulu, HI. We are currently looking for a gelato maker to join our hardworking, tight knit kitchen team and explore the world of high-quality gelato production. Starting pay during training is $20-22/hr depending on experience with an incremental raise up to $25/hour once at the fully independent and high performing level. Previous experience in at least baking is preferred. Reliability, accountability and a can-do attitude is a must. The position is part-time with the possibility of full-time if you can also work hours on the catering team serving and driving the van. All kitchen shifts start at 6AM.
Requirements for Gelato Maker include:
-Food handler certification
-Valid driver’s license, good driving record free of accidents in case we need you to drive to the store to get ingredients, or to drive the van for catering events.
-Reliably on time for your 6AM shift
-Comfortably lifting up to 50lbs
-Operating an iPad tablet
-Working independently with little to no supervision
-The ability to multi-task in a time and temperature sensitive work environment (gelato melts in seconds, you need to be able to always remember to put it immediately in the freezer)
-Following directions and production schedules diligently while meeting high quality standards
-Understanding the importance of "cleaning as you go", "first in first out", and consolidation in a small kitchen
-An interest in food culture and culinary arts
-A positive attitude
A preferred candidate's experience would include (but are not all required):
-Previous experience operating a Carpigiani LB-502 G RTX-W Gelato Batch Freezer or similar ice cream machine
-Previous experience with baking, working with chocolate, making candy with sugar since we are a kitchen that makes everything from scratch
-Previous experience using apps like Jolt, Slack, and Microsoft Excel to read recipes and take inventory

-A paid working interview $20/hour (aka “stage”) starting at 6AM, giving candidates a chance to show their abilities. You must give us your address so that we know where to mail the check.
Upon hiring, a typical day for a Gelato Maker would include (but are not limited to):
-Following recipes, baking, assembling gelato cakes/sandwiches
-Producing high quality gelato with a batch freezer on a time sensitive schedule
-Keeping high quality standards of our rotating weekly menu including gelato, sorbets, gelato cakes, waffle cones, fudge, caramel, baking cake, baking brownies from scratch, and other specials
-Cleaning the machines and kitchen at the end of the shift to meet health department standards
