Positions in this job function provide legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights and obligations of our business teams in relationships with their customers and vendors. You will be charged with protecting the organization's rights in contract negotiations and applying company policies and procedures to customer relationships. You’ll acquire deep knowledge of the life sciences industry and Optum-specific business practices concerning data as an asset.

Primary Responsibilities:
- This role reports to the head of the Data Transactions Counsel Group at UnitedHealth Group and supports a variety of business groups that consume, generate, and aggregate data and develop data analytics
- Working with business team members as an active partner to develop strategic relationships via legal counsel and contract negotiation
- Providing legal advice for developing business models as technology, regulations, and markets evolve
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating business agreements and transactions, including inbound and outbound technology licensing, data access, IP development, and similar initiatives
- Advising the business on regulatory, data privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, competition/antitrust, and related matters
- Applying business and legal judgment to proposed transactions, relationships, and other issues requiring legal or compliance review

Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree and license to practice law in the jurisdiction in which you reside
- 2+ years of legal experience
- Solid working knowledge of contract and regulatory law
- Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects
- Well-developed written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business needs
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, and external company contacts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working familiarity with software or data licensing deals
- Proficient at managing complex negotiations across a spectrum of customers (small to large entities through the life sciences and related industries)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
