We are seeking a talented and experienced Commissioning & Startup Specialist to join our team
This position will provide Commissioning & Startup Leadership to new plants, retrofit projects, and turnarounds from development to start up, and will support asset management/productivity initiatives for all America’s (the Region) Projects through the coordination of the activities from the engineers & operations teams stationed at plants.
The Commissioning & Startup Specialist, reporting to the Commissioning Manager provides commissioning & startup direction to the supported sites to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient construction, commissioning, and startup for new and retrofit plants during shutdowns, startups, plant expansions, and new project development. The role identifies, supports, and executes productivity initiatives for facilities in the Region. The facilities range across multiple technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), Hydrogen and CO production (HYCO), Gasification, Helium, and Ammonia.
Responsibilities:
The position, depending on the incumbent, will support various projects or areas of projects which include the following technologies: Air Separation (both large and Generated gas facilities), HYCO, Helium, Gasification, H2 Electrolyzers, and Ammonia.
Commission and startup the units as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures
A leader of a dynamic team that sets the example for being leaders in Safety during the construction, commissioning, startup, and startup stabilization period bringing new assets online
A leader of the team to plan, manage, and prepare equipment and systems for first time startup
Ensure development of work processes and strategy for field construction and commissioning of rotating equipment
Understand PLC and DCS controls, logic, PID tuning, and advanced control systems
Setting the strategy and leading support contractors and personnel to properly install and startup equipment.
Provide operations evaluation & determinations, issue operations direction & guidance, and oversee inspection & quality assurance initiatives for all aspects of the unit operations being supported, including commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities.
Lead and provide support & guidance during the construction & commissioning of the plants. Ensure documentation for all commissioning activities is maintained and submitted via completions database and meet all performance parameters of the plant. Monitor quality assurance initiatives including installation & assembly, alignment, cleanliness, integrity, etc. of the equipment being installed.
Lead and provide commissioning support in the new installation, existing plant modifications, on-going operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for the facilities in the Region. Ensure the activities related meet legal requirements and comply with Air Products safety and operations standards.
Provide Operations guidance to ensure safety, reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls
Mentor site operations and engineering teams in managing plant production efficiently based on input provided from Plant Management and Plant Process Engineering to ensure safety and reliability targets are met to achieve maximum profitability. Utilize the PIC center when applicable to assist the local teams for day-to-day operations.
Provide operations support and safety leadership for MOC’s, OPHR’s, and other safety related initiatives in order to drive process safety compliance. Consult Air Products process safety personnel as required for additional technical support.
Qualifications:
10 years in a commissioning role, preferably with Mega Project experience
Demonstrated ability to operate, commission, startup, troubleshoot, assess and resolve various plant related issues.
Experience and knowledge in overall plant commissioning principles
Strong background in all aspects of operating facilities including machinery, instrumentation and controls, electrical, mechanical systems, and advanced controls across multiple technologies. Demonstrated operations and technical skills. Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, interpret design curves of field machinery, & function checking of field equipment Knowledgeable in process safety, health, and local environmental requirements.

Regional travel of 75 – 80% per year with potential Global travel
