Join our team in Querétaro as a Senior Payroll Lead - Tax & Compliance! As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in auditing payroll records and executing post-payroll activities, such as payroll posting, account reconciliations, and maintaining Dayforce security, for our U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canadian teams. Your expertise will ensure accurate tax and compliance processes, while your ability to manage multiple deadlines will be essential to your success. You’ll collaborate with internal stakeholders, provide essential payroll insights, and maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information—all while upholding our SLA commitments with clear and effective communication.
HERE’S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Payroll Processing & Compliance
- Backup payroll processing for 3,000+ U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canadian employees, including calculations for disability, leave, and pay adjustments.
- Stay current on federal, state, and local compliance requirements and respond to time-sensitive legal correspondence.
Audit & Accuracy
- Complete weekly audits to ensure payroll accuracy and prepare testing materials for internal audits.
- Support Sarbanes-Oxley 404 certification and execute tax adjustments, quarterly payments, and year-end activities (W-2s, T4s).
Financial Management
- Process tax registrations and weekly journal entries; manage GL postings and reporting to budget owners.
- Oversee the U.S. IES budget, providing estimates for upcoming expenses and partnering to maintain targets.
Process Improvement & Training
- Train new payroll processors, maintain Dayforce security audits, and streamline procedures for audit compliance.
- Provide ongoing support to payroll partners and identify process patterns to standardize procedures.
Communication & Confidentiality
- Communicate on high-priority and sensitive issues across the organization and maintain confidentiality with employee records.
- Respond to payroll inquiries professionally, ensuring SLA adherence, and participate in bi-weekly HR calls.
YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
Basic Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of payroll experience or similar role
- Intermediate accounting skills with large spreadsheet reconciliation focus
- Advanced communication skills in English and Spanish, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization abilities
- Ability to interpret complex legal, tax, and compliance information
- Commitment to confidentiality with sensitive employee data
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or certifications like CPP, FPP, CEBS, or HR-related
- 5+ years of experience processing multi-state and/or multi-country payroll
- Familiarity with tax, compliance, and payroll best practices
- Experience with Fortune 500 companies and Ceridian or similar payroll platforms
