SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and presenting learning objectives and documenting participation of Amtrak Mechanical Department employee training programs.
- Serves in a leading capacity inteam situations.
- Presents Safety, Fundamentals and Skills training to new hire Mechanical employees to enable them to attain QP/QMP qualification.
- Presents Skills and Regulatory training to include: CFR49 Parts 209, 218, 228, 229, 232, 236 and 238 (FRA);CFR29 Part 1910 (OSHA); CFR21 Part 5 (FDA) to Amtrak and Contractor Qualified Persons/Qualified Maintenance Persons to maintain qualifications in the categories listed.
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for Technical Training course Developers for the revision and development of training materials within the scope of his/her knowledge.
- Presents other courses to local employees of other departments as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver training according to the established standards of the corporation.
- Accomplish assigned duties to achieve the strategic goals of the department and the corporation.
- Evaluate training programs, recommend, and implement changes based on feedback from clients, class participants, instructors and Training Department staff.
- Work with client department staff to conduct needs analyses to identify and communicate training needs.
- Advise client departments to ensure regulatory training compliance.
- Efficiently and securely manage employee training records as required by CFR49 Part 238.109.
- Coordinate the use of training facilities and equipment.
- Manage work-related travel in a responsible and cost-efficient manner.
- Ensure that all training occurs in a safe, positive and productive environment.
- Ability to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects.
- Ability and willingness to accept responsibility and make sound decisions.
- Plan, organize and adjust fluctuating assignments and workloads.
- Conduct research, interpret results and evaluate data to improve training.
- Work independently, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and ensure compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business or related field and minimum 3 years relevant experience required (or a minimum of 7 years equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered inlieu of a degree).
- Strong organization, administrative, planning and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications.
- Experience with PC-based word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Ability and willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions.
- Able to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects.
- Function effectively in a stressful environment.
- Organize, plan and manage group meetings.Present information both orally and in writing.
- Plan, organize work, and adjust fluctuating assignments and workloads.
- Work independently
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in classroom and practical instruction.
- Demonstrated experience in working with SAP and other computer based applications.
- Qualified or ability to obtain qualification for CFR49 Part 218 Subpart "B."
- Qualified or ability to obtain qualification Maintenance Person certification for CFR49 Parts 218, 229, 232, 236 and 238.
WORK ENVRIORNMENT:
- Travel up to 25%
- Physical ability to deliver required course material in the classroom, maintenance facilities, yards and rolling stock equipment with long periods of standing.
- Variable work hours and days.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range for the Senior Technical Trainer is $78,600-$113,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
