SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for system operations FOR Amtrak’s Electric Traction Department on the Northeast Corridor between New Rochelle, NY and Washington, DC; Philadelphia to Harrisburg, PA as well as New Haven, CT to Boston, MA. This position is to provide technical direction for the safety of operations, resources, the configuration and switching of the transmission, substation, trolley, signal and third rail electrification system components. This position manages a staff of electrical field engineers who directly supervise the Power Directors Offices on the Northeast Corridor. They ensure the Load Dispatcher and Power Director Offices are operated in a safe, economical, and reliable manner. Assist Division & Project Management on power requirements for maintenance and project deliverables. Respond to abnormal system conditions and problems, to minimize the impact to the Electric Traction power system and train operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides oversight and guidance to the System Operations team to ensure the Electric Traction network is operated in a safe, economical, and reliable manner.
• Manages staff to meet project deliverables and construction schedules.
• Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions on Electric Traction system outages and failures.
• Coordinate Electric Traction functions and planned outages within, and other departments as required.
• Manage agreement covered Load Dispatcher employees in a 24-hour 7 days a week operation
• Develop and provide the Power Directors with real time operational simulation drills to enhance their skills in system restoration for unplanned outages.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience in power system operations.
• 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Thorough working knowledge Electric Traction power operation and system components.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, collaborative, and relationship building skills with demonstrated experience both within and outside an organization.
• Demonstrated experience in system operations of Electric Traction facilities.
• Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization.
• Demonstrated operational planning experience.
• Attention to detail and completeness.
• Must be able to motivate others and drive for results.
• Must be able to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 15 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Work in a 24 hour 7 days a week operation
• Work hours vary day-to-day and week-to-week as required.
• Office visits to Power Director and Load Dispatcher Offices. • Travel: 20%
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The salary/hourly range is $135,800-$176,040. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
