About GO TEC™
Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers (GO TEC™) is a collaborative hub-and-spoke program, administered by the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA, that builds strategic talent pipelines from K12 to higher education. Starting in middle school, GO TEC partners engage students in Career Connection labs using hands-on learning for high-demand career pathways such as precision machining, welding, IT and cybersecurity, robotics and automation, precision agriculture, biotechnology, energy, mechatronics, and advanced materials.
About the Role
In support of IALR’s economic transformation mission and in partnership with Old Dominion University’s Research Foundation (ODURF), the GO Virginia Region 5 (VDOE Sup. Region 2) Training Coordinator works with K12 educators across the Greater Hampton Roads region to deliver GO TEC Career Connections curriculum and ensure up-to-date training on industry-specific equipment used in the program. The Coordinator provides continuous program support by offering a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for GO TEC teachers as well as technical support to ensure proper equipment setup and maintenance for each middle school lab. The Training Coordinator works as part of a team to support and expand GO TEC pathways. The Training Coordinator is a full-time, grant-funded (approx. three years) position located at Brooks Crossing in Newport News, Virginia, reporting directly to the GO TEC Technical & Training Manager at IALR with GOVA Region 5 activity oversight and coordination by ODU’s In-Region Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and deliver the GO TEC Career Connections Summer Teacher Training Institute and year-round training for K12 teachers in Region 5.
- Assist in maintaining and operating the GO TEC Region 5 Training Lab with Brooks Crossing and ODU staff.
- Provide instructional and technical support for GO TEC equipment.
- Offer program support through in-person, virtual, and recorded formats.
- Act as the primary contact for equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance in Region 5.
- Support the implementation of GO TEC curriculum aligned with industry needs.
- Foster collaboration to share instructional best practices for GO TEC units.
- Audit instructional delivery with IALR GO TEC staff to assess curriculum effectiveness.
- Organize design and skill competitions for middle school students within GO TEC areas.
- Travel to IALR and K12 schools as needed, with occasional overnight trips.
- Attend training and professional development as required.
- Build and maintain relationships with Region 5 and state stakeholders for GO TEC initiatives.
- Represent the IALR Advanced Learning Division at meetings and events.
- Disseminate GO TEC information through presentations and various media.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience using instructional and industry technologies.
- Experience with Solid Works, Fusion 360, or other 3-D modeling software applications preferred.
- Experience in developing curriculum and/or training to support education and workforce development preferred.
- Must be able to move freely between facilities
- Operate and maintain program and training equipment; manual dexterity.
- Light physical work may be required
- Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard
- May lift up to 50 pounds regularly
Salary & Benefits
