Job Description
Role Purpose
The Vice President, Labor Relations will be responsible for oversight of the labor relations function for the Universal Studios Hollywood (“USH”) theme park business of NBCUniversal, including collective bargaining, contract administration & grievance handling, and legal compliance, and provide labor relations support for other NBCU businesses as assigned. The role reports to the Senior Vice President of Labor and Employment for Universal Destinations & Experiences and is located in Universal City, California.
Job Duties
- Partner with business executives, and lead development and implementation of long and short-term strategic labor relations objectives
- Provide strategic advice and counsel to internal clients, including human resources professionals, business leaders and managers regarding labor laws and union contractual obligations to further business objectives in both union and non-union environments
- Develop and execute collective bargaining strategy for 13+ collective bargaining agreements; act as chief company spokesperson in all collective bargaining
- Oversee union contract compliance and administration for all collective bargaining agreements
- Act as labor legal counsel in grievances and arbitrations and in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board
- Provide legal advice and support for Taft-Hartley plan audits
- Create training for HR and management
- Establish and maintain strong, constructive working relationships with labor union representatives
- Advise on employment matters and handle employment law-related issues impacting represented employees as appropriate and in coordination with employment counsel, including but not limited to California and federal obligations with respect to unlawful discrimination & harassment, accommodations and wage & hour matters

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Law degree
- Admitted to practice law, California bar preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of labor relations/labor law experience
- Prior collective bargaining experience as 1st chair, including prior experience developing bargaining strategy
- Prior experience interpreting and providing advice and counsel on collective bargaining agreements
- Prior experience providing advice and counsel in connection with representation demands and proceedings
- Prior experience as lead attorney in labor arbitrations and in handling matters before the National Labor Relations Board
Desired Characteristics
- Prior experience as management-side labor relations counsel
- Prior experience analyzing and calculating the cost of collective bargaining proposals and the financial impact of the overall agreement
- Prior experience advising on contingency planning
- Experience advising employers on employment laws
- Experience managing direct reports
- Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, including legal and business writing
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles and establish effective relationships of all levels of the organization
- Clear and strategic thinker, with ability to quickly identify root causes of problems and develop creative, strategic and effective solutions

- Willingness to travel on occasion
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends
- This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week
