Summary: As a Process Engineering Intern for Green Plains Inc. you will be asked to learn detailed operations of a functioning ethanol facility in the Green Plains fleet of dry mills. The Process Engineer (PE) Intern will assist in moving the process engineering workflow through the entire process from the initial project conception through detailed engineering and into the system start-up. The intern will assist and complete multiple projects under the guidance of an on-site process engineer. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Quickly learn and understand the critical safety practices of the plant and know which parts of the PSM program are managed by the Engineering team.
- Understand the operational nuances of a biorefinery.
- Work with operations to troubleshoot and solve process problems at the plant.
- Identify and engineer solutions to improve safety, efficiency, or yields within plant operations.
- Attend daily meetings within the plant that your projects will affect.
- Develop the scope of a project, get agreement from all stakeholders, and write Capital Investment Requests (CIRs).
- Network with the engineering staff and other engineering interns within the fleet to develop a higher level of understanding of the industry and how operational expenses drive business decisions.
- Attend and successfully complete Osha 10 training
- Participate in summer internship programming activities with intern peers. Activities include a week-long orientation in Omaha and end of the summer final presentation showcasing intern’s projects.
- Assist in other duties as needed and directed.
Qualifications:
- Must be Junior or Senior status seeking a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Agricultural, Biological, or other related Engineering field
- Must be in good academic standing within their major and overall at their university
- Knowledge of mass and energy balance, equipment & instrumentation sizing/specification, and fluid hydraulics
- Ability to fully read, develop, and understand P&IDs and detailed construction drawings
- Abilities and skills in planning, organizing, and problem-solving
- High safety standards and personal accountability
- Ability to work full-time hours between May and August of 2024
- Travel up to 10% expected at various times
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Experience and knowledge of the grain/agriculture industry preferred but not required
