POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of New Product Introduction Manager is responsible for strategic and tactical product management activities for assigned mobile products associated with the collection, transport, and processing of solid waste streams, from the point of waste generation to ultimate destination and use. Product managers are routinely assigned specific product platform ownership within the Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) portfolio.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility, growth and profit driving leadership role within Heil Environmental and ESG. The Product Manager essentially operates as the General Manager for his/her particular product lines to ensure long-term, profitable growth; for the same Product Management is focused on strategic Portfolio Management with the intent of maximizing ESG market share and profitability of ESG products over the complete life cycle of the product (from concept/ideation to retirement/pruning of mature products). Profitable growth is the core deliverable of this role. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) include, gross margin, market share, customer satisfaction and new product sales as percent of annual ESG revenue.
Product Managers are expected to be able to plan and coordinate effectively with all business functions (Sales, Engineering, Finance, Strategic Pricing etc.) to maximize the life cycle profitability and growth of ESG product lines.
Key activities of Product Managers can include value-proposition development and effective customer communication of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) benefits, new product innovation pipeline oversight, brand management, promotional publications oversight, technical publications and industry regulatory compliance coordination, identification and implementation oversight of cost reduction priorities, quarterly and annual sales/margin forecasting, prototype and product demonstration support, market/competitor analysis/response, financial analysis, and basic operations project coordination.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Utilize the ESG Innovation Process to drive the development of new products/options, from structured VOC (voice of the customer) interviews and translation, to generation of innovative ideas for new products, oversight of actual product development, testing and production ramp-up in engineering/manufacturing, and successful launching.
- Systematically phase out obsolete products/options in coordination with the launch of new products/options to replace them.
- Develop and communicate total cost of ownership based value proposition to factually support premium value-based pricing to establish appropriate price points for all responsible products and options (both standard and custom).
- Analyze margins to identify areas for targeted cost reduction initiatives.
- Develop appropriate value proposition supportive technical literature and training materials, with an emphasis on total cost of ownership for the end-user.
- Analyze markets and competitors to identify and respond to major industry trends.
- Utilize product scorecards to identify product line performance deficiencies and address accordingly.
- Significant (40%) time externally focused with field time accompanying Regional Managers, dealers and end-users to develop effective sales tools, promote products, identify opportunities/threats and gain a deep understanding of the market and unmet customer needs.
- Participate in all major trade shows, from developing appropriate marketing materials, to booth set-up and tear-down as required, to booth staffing and training.
- Serve as "information conduit" between the external world of sales/dealers/customers and the internal world of manufacturing and engineering.
- Participate in relevant trade/technical organizations to promote practices and specifications of benefit to Environmental Solutions Group.
- Develop and maintain close relationships with chassis manufacturers.
- Minimal travel up to 10% is required for this role.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, similar technical or operational field preferred or equivalent experience. Master’s Degree in business or industrial management is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as Product Specialist, Product Manager/Engineer, Operations Manager, and/or Technical Sales/Service representative.
- Capital equipment industry experience is preferred: Job shop or design-to-build production environment and/or waste equipment industry experience a plus.
- New product development process experience is a definite plus.
- Demonstrated track record of project management consisting of cross-functional teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Experience and demonstrated ability with Microsoft Access and Project and/or CAD software is also a plus.
- Candidate possesses strong analytical and technical abilities.
- Strong leadership and control of work processes from beginning to end is necessary. The job demands fast, but carefully thought-out results.
