Chewy is looking for a Manager, Data Science IIIto join our multifaceted and fast-paced Production Planning, Analytics & Technology (PPAT) team! This team is a division of our Short-Term Planning group, which consists of dedicated data and technology Team Members, passionate about optimizing fulfillment operations, boosting efficiency, and reducing costs through precise scientific methods and data analytics. The ideal candidate will lead and grow a team of data scientists by guiding the group's roadmap, developing programs to nurture an impactful team. You will discover new opportunities for process improvements, bridge communication between customers and data scientists, identifying and resolve bottlenecks between concurrent projects to prevent downstream issues, ensure continuous learning and development for the team, and drive partnership with senior leaders. Successful candidates will be passionate about building data science solutions for fulfillment operations and supply chain processes, preferably within the e-commerce sector, and have the ability to nurture ideas into reality. This role has a meaningful impact on the overall business, requiring the candidate to operate with a high degree of autonomy in high-stakes situations.
What you'll do:
- Lead, research, strategize, design, implement, document and communicate Data Science initiatives end-to-end, from incubation to deployment.
- Facilitate the delivery of enterprise wide, production grade, and accurate data science products by establishing and standardizing tooling and process frameworks for standard methodologies
- Investigate the design and performance of science models and facilitate the team to master full stack technical capabilities
- Perform accurate analysis using incomplete data to answer strategic business questions and support planning program development
- Lead, mentor, and coordinate the team and program managers to meet project goals and expectations
- Act as a liaison your team, partners, and senior leadership, ensuring solutions are delivered on time to meet business objectives, while also discovering areas for process improvement and deeper analysis
- Communicate accurate status updates, results, issues, impact, and risk mitigation strategies in business terminology that can be communicated to and understood by technical and non-technical leaders (including the writing of whitepapers to communicate business objectives, problems, or results)
- Actively participate in the development of the company's data science strategy and roadmap, working closely with leaders
- Provide innovative insights by staying up-to-date with growing industry trends in fulfillment, supply chain, data, and technology
What you'll need:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, Supply Chain, or a related field
- A minimum of two years of leadership experience running technical teams
- 4+ years of project management or program management experience in the supply chain or fulfillment operations by supporting data science or technology teams
- Strong analytical skills and Intermediate skill level in SQL; Proficiency in statistical techniques, as well as Python or R
- Experience with data transformation and data visualization tools to work comfortably with large and multifaceted data sets and present findings to senior leaders in a concise and actionable manner
- Knowledge of Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Confluence)
- Ability to drive innovative solutions using data science and technology in supply chain and fulfillment operations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working successfully across multiple teams and partners and positively influence growth
- Confirmed leadership in a cross functional environment with decisiveness, consensus-building, and appreciation
