Leidos has an opening in our Albuquerque, NM office for a Senior Systems Engineer with experience in the development, deployment, operation, and sustainment of weapon systems for the department of defense. The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers and scientists in a research and development environment. The ideal candidate will possess superior analytical and problem-solving skills, operate independently, collaborate effectively with teammates, be receptive to feedback, thrive on and seek opportunities for self-improvement and growth, and can establish solid working relationships with technical staff, peers within the division, as well as our external government customers. The successful candidate will guide the team to incorporate proven directed energy (DE) technologies into fully capable weapon systems for the United States Air Force and other customers.
Primary Responsibilities
Used Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques to perform systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance.
Evaluate alternative system designs and configurations to manage program objectives, including cost, risk, supportability, reliability, and performance.
Support DE system development through all program phases including technical planning; system design; development; integration, assembly, test and checkout; developmental test and evaluation; and operational test and evaluation. Generate reports and design documentation based on the digital model.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering w/ 8 years of prior relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree in any technical field combined with a Systems Engineering Master’s degree and at least 6 years of prior relevant experience
- Using a SysML tool, preferably Cameo, to produce system models which includes developing the standard systems engineering diagrams including activity, block definition, internal block, package, parametric, requirement, sequence, state machine and use cases.
- Performs analysis and decomposition of system, segment, subsystem, and assembly requirements.
- Leads development of system requirements, ICDs and other system engineering artifacts.
- Collaborates with all levels of program and engineering staff on design, integration and test matters and support other teams/disciplines as necessary.
- Works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to develop deployment, block definition, internal block definition, activity, state & sequence diagrams, perform requirement capture and characterization, develop parametric analysis, and enable all SysML-based artifact development and use in a model-based systems engineering environment.
- Support program design and readiness reviews.
- Supports operation of engineering systems and documents any problems.
- Supports internal development and new business opportunities.
- Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
- Identifies and resolves conflicting requirements
- Generates high-quality documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
- Represent the organization as a technical lead on contracts or projects.
- Interface with customers during program shaping, ConOps development, and requirements derivation activities.
- Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior systems engineering experience on fielded systems for the US Military, with preference for the U.S. Air Force
- We are interested in candidates with prior experience with planning and execution of system lifecycle management
- Experience with developmental testing and evaluation
- Strong analytical skills, with knowledge of design of experiments methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to apply digital models to the design of experiments
- Current and active DoD clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
