The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly qualified Business Architect Lead to join the P&C Cross-CoSA Member Initiatives Team. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping, aligning, and delivering our organizational strategy and driving the successful execution of growth initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in all sectors of financial services (P&C, Life Insurance and Bank). They will have experience with customer-centric strategies, have excellent analytical skills and the ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, facilitate creative and scalable solutions, with a proven track record of delivering strategic outcomes.
In this role you will apply technical skills and deep business knowledge to increase strategy to execution alignment. You will reduce risk of strategy divergence by influencing, and partnering with, business leaders in course of action translation. You will facilitate and guide cross-functional teams to systemically align business strategies and technology investments. Set architecture strategy and governance for the holistic business ecosystem based on decision needs of strategy and business leaders. And support the organization's long-range planning and portfolio prioritization processes, and some management reviews of implemented plans.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position is based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Provide overall direction and guidance on the business architecture and monitor implemented strategic plans and progress towards strategic goals.
- Partner with Senior Strategy Officer and Line of Business Senior Executives to use insights to inform strategic choices, fact-based prioritization analyses, and business opportunity assessments.
- Design architecture approaches, finding atypical yet compliant methods, to facilitate business executives in business strategy translation/decomposition/deconstruction and visualize for the alignment of the organizational spans and layers (i.e., strategy blueprints).
- Design current and target state assessments, finding atypical yet compliant methods, to facilitate current and target state assessments to inform and visualize internal business capability maturity needs and prioritization over the strategic horizon (i.e., capability-based planning).
- Provide consultation on business modeling methods to ensure a consistent and complete business knowledgebase and blueprints for planning, portfolio, and executive decision-making and analysis.
- Serve as the primary conduit within the business, across business lines, and extended architecture community (enterprise, technical, process, and information) in the alignment of subsequent strategies, plans, and business architecture artifacts.
- Facilitate, negotiate, and represent business' interests in the maturation and investment in business architecture.
- Drive the creation and alignment of the business architecture framework, governing principles, and best practices.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in the development of the business architecture metamodel and supporting tool suite, and alignment to other architecture domain metamodels and frameworks.
- Provide business and technical mentorship to create and maintain role consistency and build the talent pipeline.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to business architecture.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8 years of relevant business architecture experience to include practice and knowledgebase development and maturation, strategy translation/decomposition/deconstruction, capability-based planning to include business capability assessments and capability roadmap development.
- 4 years of hands-on experience developing business architecture for large scale strategic priorities and business strategies.
- Proven experience designing unique business architecture approaches and leading cross-functional teams to deliver upon architecture services.
- Experience working with a diverse set of strategy, planning, and execution methods (Waterfall and Agile).
- Expert ability to influence and explain complex architecture recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization.
- Experience in independent development and relationship mapping between value stream maps, business capability maps, organizational graphs, and/or business strategy blueprints to present ideas and proposals for informed business decisions in pursuit of strategic outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge and application of industry standard business and enterprise architecture meta modeling, tooling, and frameworks (BIZBOK®, TOGAF®).
- Experience in the application of business architecture standards, principles, and policies and knowledge of applicable regulations and risk management practices.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $120,550 - $216,990.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
