This position requires a Series 6 license at the time of application and you will be required to obtain your Series 63 within 120 days of hire.
This is a hybrid position located in Columbus Ohio or Scottsdale AZ and you will be required to come into the office three days a week. You will be required to live within 35 miles of the Columbus or Scottsdale AZ offices.
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Our Internal Sales & Service (ISS) team works with Financial Professionals to provide the right Nationwide products to people who need and want them. We count on our team members to represent Nationwide well in this important market and have a real desire to connect and help our customers.
As a Specialist, you’ll build, grow and retain strategic relationships with financial professionals, administrators and/or plan sponsors and participants (clients) through advising and consulting, in support of business unit sales goals. We’ll count on you to works effectively with multiple contact points across the sales process.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Initiates daily contacts to targeted business partners to build relationships, discover appropriate needs where products and services apply and consults and advises based on clients’ needs.
Develops and grows strategic business partnerships and relationships with business partners to meet territory management performance requirements. Acts as a consultative link between business partners and Nationwide Financial (NF). Applies knowledge of industry trends, competitive intelligence, state legislation, market movements and investment changes/performance to advise and consult with business partners.
Evaluates and determines viability of business partners with respect to customer needs, business needs and products. Acts as a consultant to provide the most appropriate strategies/solutions to meet these needs.
Responds to requests from business partners and external sales within assigned territory, providing support materials such as illustrations, proposals and product/rider information. Consults with the business partners to address concerns about not using a NF product and help them be more comfortable with NF’s solutions in the future.
Acts as a consultant by proactively providing financial expertise, recommendations and practice management advice to business partners within assigned territory.
Executes proactive contacts with business partners to support campaigns highlighting product features and benefits and advises business partners on pertinent sales ideas and solutions.
Partners with external sales force to consult with business partners to grow their business. Advises on product and procedural modifications to meet the needs of the business partner or client.
Engages business partners to retain business. Works to understand reasons for asset flight and advises alternative solutions for retention.
Represents Internal Sales and Service (ISS) in meetings and initiatives such as advisory boards, relationship strategy partnerships and other committees.
Consults with functions across Nationwide such as Marketing, Business Performance Excellence and Product Development to build competitive products and services.
Travels and covers open external wholesaler territory, on a temporary basis and for conducting in person meetings and Broker dealer events.
Serves as a role model to and helps train newer regional internal associates. Assists with team meetings.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Manager and does not have direct reports.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree in human ecology, business, finance, communications, marketing or related field required.
License/Certification/Designation: FINRA Series 6 and Series 63 licenses required. Associate must obtain the required federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.
Experience: Three years of experience in a sales-driven position. Experience in a sales or service call center environment preferred, as well as financial services background.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of insurance and financial products and the associated consultative sales processes and industry knowledge preferred. Knowledge should be demonstrated and executed at an in-depth level that serves as a role model for lesser experienced regional internal associates. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and execution of the Teach / Tailor / Take Control elements of our consistent consultative sales process. Demonstrates the ability to execute these responsibilities at an in-depth level that serves as a role model for lesser experienced regional internal associates.
Must have a drive for results, demonstrate independent judgment and decision-making, ability for relationship building (both internally and externally), positive outlook, consultative selling/advising skills, ability and willingness to follow processes, good time management/organization skills, be receptive to coaching, have a strong customer focus orientation, ability to balance multiple priorities and have excellent communication skills including professional presence, listening, rapport building, writing skills and presentation abilities. Skills and competencies should be demonstrated and executed at an in-depth level that serves as a role model for lesser experienced Regional Internal associates.
