Under general supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work in carpentry and maintenance of City-owned buildings and facilities. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.
Work Location5800 Historic Old Highway 90Work Schedule6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Shifts are subject to change to accommodate seasonal adjustments, evening coverage, weekends, and holiday shiftwork based on department needs. Weekly rotation on On-Call for after hours support may be required. - Builds repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, shelves, tables, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trims.
- Installs and repairs door locks, door closures, and overhead doors.
- Builds office furniture such as desks, bookcases, and computer stands.
- Installs and replaces ceiling tile, floor tile, and drywall.
- Installs metal studs, metal doors, and frames.
- Repairs roof leaks.
- Prepares concrete forms for minor repairs on sidewalks, curbs, and driveways.
- Repairs wooden and chain link fences.
- Installs and repairs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
- Removes interior and exterior walls, doors, and windows, may require frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Works from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions and the necessity to operate carpentry tools and equipment.
- May supervise semi-skilled employees in carpentry and maintenance of City-owned buildings (depending on area of assignment).
- Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Three (3) years of experience in carpentry.
- Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- Must successfully pass all background investigations and maintain a current security identification badge if assigned to Aviation.
Preferred Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- One (1) year experience using a work order system.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Familiar with SAP/CRM computer systems.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
