KBR is seeking a Lead Systems Administrator to support our NASA Aeronautics Research Technology and Simulation (ARTS) Program for KBR’s Science and Space division. The purpose of ARTS Program is to provide mission critical support for researchers with high-fidelity environments to conduct simulated flight and Air Traffic Management (ATM) research and advance the state-of-the-art simulation technology. Researchers use the facilities to investigate a variety of topics ranging from the design of new aircraft guidance and control systems to the human factors implications of new or existing flight deck displays, airspace operations, air traffic control and automation.
The Lead Systems Administrator will lead a team of 4-5 System Administrators at the NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) Simulation Laboratories (SimLabs), where they manage, maintain, and enhance the complex IT systems and networks that support the SimLabs simulation system enterprise. Operating systems supported include Mac OS, Windows, and Linux, running on numerous devices and networks. The NASA ARC SimLabs consist of the Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS), with a 60 ft. vertical motion system and interchangeable cabs, which can be customized to simulate any aerospace vehicle; the Crew Vehicle Systems Research facility (CVSRF), which houses the B747-400 flight simulator; and Future Flight Central (FFC), an Air Traffic Control/Air Traffic Management (ATC/ATM) simulation facility dedicated to solving present and emerging capacity problems of the nation's airports.
The work will be performed at the NASA AMES Research Center Simulation Laboratories in Mountain View, California.
The Lead Systems Administrator will be responsible for:
- Leading a team of 4-5 system administrators to maintain and enhance the IT systems and networks that run under Windows, Linux, and that support the SimLabs simulation system enterprise.
- Performing IT security plan management and administration and system and network management and administration.
- Performing troubleshooting and resolution, user support, planning and implementation of software and hardware upgrades, regular backups of systems, restoration as required, development and deployment of new capabilities, implementation of NASA IT security policy, and interface to external organizations and laboratories for networking, VPN provision, and data exchange.
- Developing customized solutions to address individual researcher needs for data collection, fusion, and processing.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Education: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 5-10 years of experience in IT systems administration, software development, computer engineering, or other related fields
- Expertise in managing networks to comply with an IT Security Plan including management of isolated network equipment (firewalls, routers, switches, DNS)
- Experience with IT security benchmark compliance and maintenance
- Expertise in IT Management of Linux (Ubuntu, Oracle Linux 8), Mac OS, and Windows systems
- Strong system debugging skills
- Excellent problem solving, communications, organizational, and leadership skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, and Terraform
- Experience with IT support ticket systems such as Remedy and JIRA
- Understanding of logging systems and client-end configuration tools such as Splunk and Graylog
- Familiarity with elements of Cloud Computing and Amazon Web Services
- Understanding of modern Data Center infrastructure, including racking and stacking of hardware and network configuration
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience supporting a NASA contract
- Knowledge of NASA’s IT security requirements or experience managing systems to compliant with NIST standards
- Experience or interest in enhancing knowledge and skills in AI, cloud and other developing technologies
- Experience with real-time systems
- Familiar with managing Atlassian enterprise system
- Working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages
Basic Compensation:
$138,900 - $208,400
This range is for the California area only
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
