Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an opening for an OPERATIONS ENGINEER to support its HyCO production facilities in the Port Arthur, TX and Lake Charles, LA areas.
The Port Arthur and Lake Charles area consists of large Steam Methane Reformers, combustion turbines, combined cycle Heat Recovery Steam Generators, steam turbines, refinery off-gas units and CO2 capture facilities. Production includes Hydrogen, Steam, CO2 and Power for our onsite customer and the Gulf Coast Franchise The Operations Engineer will have broad engineering responsibilities supporting the Port Arthur and Westlake Operations Superintendents and Area Manager.

This role will require the candidate to gain an understanding of all aspects of the sites’ production activities. The specific focus of the role will be to lead and initiate high level reliability and efficiency projects associated with each operating facility. The position is a combination of hands-on field work and desk work. This includes work involving data analysis and tracking, systems integration, and reviews of both Air Products and external engineering standards. The hands-on work includes large rotating machinery, unit operations and control systems
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Support for safety performance, reduction of recordable injuries, Basic Safety Process compliance (BSP) and process safety management (PSM) conformance.
- Management of Change (MOC) development, implementation, and timely closure of open MOCs and action items.
- Drive operational discipline and best practice implementation and training.
- Develop, implement and support KPI monitoring at the plant level which includes work process development, the calculating of the algorithms and the reporting structure.
- Be the Operations Point of Contact with the Project Resources and Outage Support (PROS) group to develop/justify, manage and implement projects.
- Support of all aspects of day-to-day operations, including operator rounds, water treatment and troubleshooting.
- Working with on-site operators, operations management, and external support resources to coordinate operational outage needs.
- Identifying maintenance concerns, then developing and coordinating with the Site Reliability Engineer.
- Act as the site’s Root Cause Analysis (RCA) complex facilitator.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following:
- Experience in engineering-based roles with a strong preference toward individuals that desire to progress into operations or engineering leadership roles A consistent track record in driving continuous improvement through analytical reviews of complex systems.
- Knowledge of RCA and FMEA with previous usage of these methodologies is a plus.
- A track record of success on Safety, Environmental, Quality and Employee engagement.
- A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A self-starter with validated leadership abilities.
- This role is a safety sensitive position.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
- B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
- Prefer 2-4 years’ experience preferred. Industrial Plant internship or co-op, preferred
