JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant General Counsel is a senior role in the commercial legal team, responsible for providing strategic and practical legal advice to the business and sales units on a variety of matters, such as contracts, disputes, compliance, intellectual property, and risk management. The Assistant General Counsel also mentors other legal professionals, develops best practices and templates, and co-leads legal education initiatives within the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with limited supervision. Creative problem solving, manages internal customer relationships, understand strategic vision, executes to goals of strategy, management of outside counsel including budgeting for legal matters.
- Manages higher level risk, complexity, and business impact.
- Recommends and drives best practices.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to the Associate General Counsel of the business vertical
- This role has direct supervisory duties over Senior Counsel and Corporate Counsel
- Job may be responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management).
- May supervise professional staff or less experienced attorneys
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial law, strong communication and negotiation skills, and a collaborative and innovative mindset.
- Prior experience in healthcare device manufacturing, drug development and/or sterilization technology, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply the relevant laws and regulations in these domains
- Good oral and written communication, good judgement, strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate ability to work in a changing, fast paced, and energetic environment.
- Strong work ethic, motivated and self-starter, ability to resolve conflict, business acumen with business-oriented approach to problem solving, ability to prioritize and manage competing demands
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 7-12 years of legal experience or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
- Graduate of an ABA or foreign equivalent law school, member of a bar in good standing, eligible to practice law in USA (Florida preferred).
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
