Position Overview
As an Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for developing detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and diagrams using CAD software and ensuring that electrical designs meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. You will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical designs into overall project plans.

Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.
Location
This position is based out of our Calgary, Alberta office.
Responsibilities
- Design and draft intermediate electrical drawings.
- Properly size cables and raceways.
- Perform layout of electrical equipment in electrical buildings.
- Develops 3D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills.
- Checks and navigates in the 3D models for interferences and constructability.
- Routes electrical cables in a 3D environment to generate a cable schedule
- Perform calculations to check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements and size pull boxes.
- Perform calculations to size pull boxes according to NEC requirements.
- Little to no supervision required to apply standard correctly to design.
- Initiates development of personal objectives aligned with those of the organization.
- Seeks feedback and uses it effectively.
- Identifies changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
- Takes initiative to meet or exceed the quality and expected outcome requirements of internal and external customers.
- Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity.
- Complies with company standards to produce quality deliverables.
- Design duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems from concept to completion utilizing engineering documents, sketches or vendor data.
- Completes miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
- Participates in project meetings as required.

Qualifications
- At least 2 years’ experience in Design and/or Drafting disciplines with a background in electrical design
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design preferred; minimum GED Diploma with drafting or electrical design training
- Experience utilizing 3D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or SP3D and have knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
- Must be able to conceptualize in a 3D environment.
- Ability to work in a growing, adaptive and multi-discipline team environment
- Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English language
