As a member of our Credits, Incentives and Methods (CIM) group, you will be performing tax consulting and advisory services related to Research and Development (R&D) tax credits. These services involve performing R&D tax credit studies, quantifying R&D activities and costs, compiling proper documentation and support and developing an overall methodology to assist the company in quantifying and supporting past, current and future credits. In addition, you will be responsible forassisting with IRS and federal and state controversy and appeals related to the R&D credit. As a member of the FCI team, you will be interacting with both internal tax professionals and external client stakeholders.
RSM is looking for a Senior Associate to join their Tax Credits and Incentives Practice. This unique Practice within the nation’s leading middle market accounting firm allows the Associate to travel to client sites to discuss client’s developing products. Intensive training will be provided along with a dedicated mentor.
Responsibilities:
Assistance with conducting quality R&D tax credit studies for the Firm’s clients which involves reviewing work papers and returns, conducting interviews with client personnel relating to their R&D activities, resolving technical issues and performing tax technical research
Assistance with tax consulting services, including section 199 Domestic Production Activities Deduction (DPAD), among others such as accounting method assessments, design and implementation of projects related to revenue and expense recognition, capitalized items, fixed assets and inventories
Developing business and industry expertise along with specialized knowledge of tax laws and regulations relating to the R&D credit and DPAD
Assistance with managing and implementing multiple projects simultaneously, which includes client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering and coordination of RSM and client resources
Develop and sustain excellent client relationships through personal attention and timeliness of service by maintaining regular contact with assigned clients – communicate directly with client personnel, including operations, finance, accounting, and engineering
Assistance in our business development efforts by participating in feasibility reviews to determine the potential cost and benefit of a full study and recognizing opportunities for providing additional services to clients
Assist with drafting opinion letters, responses to IRS and state inquiries and writing other technical memoranda
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in public accounting, or a combination of public accounting and industry/law
Undergraduate degree in business (accounting, economics, finance, etc.) or a degree in the sciences (computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, or physics).
Strong social skills including a dynamic personality and excellent communications
Natural curiosity
Ability to take detailed notes in a fast paced environment
Extremely organized and responsive
Good judgment
Proficiency with MS Excel and Access
Available for up to 50% travel during the busy season

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $72,600 - $137,500
Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
