Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s North America Safety Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Safety Engineer for Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina.
Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC), the company’s first automotive battery plant globally, will be the hub of developing and producing lithium-ion batteries for our expanding portfolio of electrified vehicles, and so much more. When TBMNC comes online in 2025, it will have 14 production lines including four supporting battery production for Hybrid Electric Vehicles and 10 supporting battery production for battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
This position will work Weekend and/or Night Shift.
The primary responsibility of this role is to balance company-wide operational hoshin (yearly plan) priorities with the obligation to team member safety and compliance through the translation of complex safety regulatory interpretations into actionable instructions and development of technically accurate, standardized safety policies, standards, and programs.
The person in this role will support the Toyota Safety department's objective to prioritize safety through standardization, achieve best safety performance, and an incident free workplace.
What you’ll be doing
Provide support as a multi-function subject matter expert in safety related functions such as construction safety, machine & equipment guarding, risk assessment, control of hazardous energy, safety management system, ergonomics and industrial hygiene.
Develop business plans and strategies.
Lead, support, and participate in key safety initiatives within the safety business unit.
Coordinate/lead customer targeted audits for Toyota Safety Management Systems.
Update specific machine safety related policy and procedures.
Manage multiple reports for local, regional, and regulatory agencies, and internal Toyota Motor Corporation reporting.
Calculate risks and challenge the status quo with deep analysis of the situation.
What you bring
Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
Experience in industrial or construction safety, manufacturing, and/or engineering.
Experience with or exposure to safety systems, regulatory policy and compliance, equipment engineering or similar.
Experience gathering and analyzing data and visualizing data through effective reports and presentations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work Weekend and/or Night Shift.
Added bonus of you have
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety or Engineering.
CSP certification or other Professional Safety Certification(s).
Battery Manufacturing experience.
Hazard identification experience.
Safety incident investigation experience.
Chemical manufacturing experience.
Ergonomics experience.
