Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s newest manufacturing facility in Liberty, North Carolina is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Battery Engineering Manager.
Prior to starting battery production, the primary responsibility of this person is to lead the establishment of the Engineering Team. This includes hiring a team, creating, and implementing technical training, and launching the framework & systems, which will be used within the engineering department.
After starting battery production, this person will lead the engineering team to complete budget planning, provide engineering solutions to improve manufacturing KPIs and manage process changes. Primarily, this person will instill a culture of continuous improvement – creating a collaborative team that takes pride in providing engineering services.
This position reports to the Manufacturing Senior Manager and works in partnership with production, maintenance, quality, and other departments.
What you’ll be doing
Lead hiring and establishing the engineering team. This includes recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding.
Members of the engineering team will work in Japan for several months. The Engineering Manager will be responsible to ensure the team is prepared for success with this great learning experience. The Engineering Manager will travel to Japan to oversee their success.
The Engineering Manager is expected to be knowledgeable and learn quickly about the process and product and provide technical expertise and direction to the team when needed. The Engineering Manager will spend considerable time on the production floor with the equipment & people, developing each team member’s technical capability and problem-solving methodology.
The Engineering Manager is expected to have a strong focus on people development - providing leadership coaching and mentorship to all team members.
A key responsibility includes establishing and managing budget planning and successful project execution.
After starting production, the Engineering Manager will meet engineering-related KPIs by driving action through proactive problem-solving, visualizing group status, and providing measurable & continual improvement.
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or process industries.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching a team to solve problems and continually improve.
Experience with production operations and equipment (example: electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, robotics, safety protocols, etc.).
Successful examples of process improvement and kaizen.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, if not less.
What you may bring
Experience with new equipment technology related to a start-up, major or new model change, or product launch.
Knowledge of battery; cell/module; or similar experience in a highly automated production environment.
Skills related to industrial process engineering (example: Controls – program design and user interface work; IoT - process monitoring, data collection and storage, analytics).
Knowledge or experience with Lean Manufacturing Principles (quickly able to utilize fundamental Toyota skills like: 4S, FMDS, A3, TBP, Visualization, etc.).
