Responsible for leading strategic partnerships and military programs to recruit, hire, onboard and embed veteran and other military connected talent at USAA. Innovate, develop and design the roadmap and strategy to ensure USAA becomes the military Employer of Choice while aligning the company’s workforce needs with veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses. The executive will work closely with internal stakeholders, external military organizations, and veterans’ advocacy groups to foster strong partnerships and ensure successful recruitment, career development and belonging for military and military affiliated candidates.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL.
The Opportunity
What you’ll do:
- Develop, design and implement best practice focused military talent attraction strategies designed to deliver and meet organizational business objectives related to talent needs and diversity, inclusion and belonging priorities.
- Oversee the end-to-end recruitment process, from identifying business needs, to attraction, acquisition and anticipating onboarding, development and career pathing, ensuring a seamless and positive candidate experience.
- Build and lead an impactful, strategically aligned and business-focused team through effective talent selection, coaching, performance management, and team development encouraging a diverse and inclusive workplace culture in both people and thought leadership.
- Constructs tailored outreach programs and engages with existing and new military partnerships, veterans’ organizations, and career transition programs that build USAA’s reputation as a leading Employer of Choice for veteran and military connected talent.
- Provides functional expertise, market-related intel, and consultation to talent acquisition and business stakeholders in support of fostering belonging.
- Ability to educate internal stakeholders on how to translate military occupational skills and experience into civilian terms aligned to open roles.
- Establishes strategic partnerships with government and community programs to recruit, hire, and on-board veteran and military-affiliated talent and ensure adherence to industry best practices, trends, processes, and products and services into current staffing program strategies.
- Coordinates with internal talent acquisition all aspects of military recruitment events, including job fairs, career workshops, and virtual recruitment efforts.
- Develops programs that improve understanding of internal stakeholder on how military skills and experience transfer to USAA roles.
- In partnership with internal stakeholders acts as an advocate for military hires on veteran-specific training, onboarding programs, mentorship, and career development opportunities to support their successful integration into the USAA workforce.
- Assesses business issues and develops executable plans to address military program needs and/or drive the development of new military recruiting programs and activities.
- Champions continuous process improvement, lean methodologies, and the identification and implementation of standard practices to enhance the recruiting process and overall candidate experience.
- Manages a team of individual contributors and people leaders to establish performance expectations and provide feedback, coaching, and career counseling.
- Ensures recruiting programs are aligned with diversity attraction strategies and associated budgets.
- Oversees performance metrics and effectiveness of military recruitment practices to guide shared understanding and continuous improvement around talent pipelines, funnel, and key performance indicators. Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on the effectiveness of military hiring programs, progress toward goals, and areas for improvement.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s Degree OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in talent acquisition, recruitment, or program management, with at least 5 years focused on military or veteran recruitment or advocacy.
- 4 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to be an influential subject matter expert in military recruitment working with all organizational levels to influence talent attraction and acquisition outcomes, assess enterprise-wide needs and appropriately execute TA strategies to achieve business objectives.
- In depth knowledge of military culture, military connected and veteran experiences, transition processes, and how to support a corporate culture of belonging for military talent.
- Experience collaborating with internal key resources and business stakeholders, influencing business decisions with the use of programs managed, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
- Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations supporting various business entities, and military and Department of Defense rules, regulations and emerging trends or updates.
- Ability to work and influence successfully within a heavily matrixed environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of stakeholders.

Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $ 163,880.00- 294,980.00.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
