Position Overview
As a Substation Structural Engineer Intern in the Power Delivery department, you will be part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Location
This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office.
Responsibilities
• Assists in designing new and existing substation and transmission structures and foundation systems.
• Helps prepare and review drawing and calculation packages.
• Learns to apply and review department and industry standards when preparing calculations, project drawings, and project specifications for procurement and construction.
• Incorporates the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring the projects meet or exceed project goals.
• Helps coordinate with internal and external partners including cross-discipline, construction, vendors, fabricator(s), and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns including constructability reviews and construction RFIs.
• Assists in preparing, monitoring, and updating project plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets (e.g., new scope or potential change orders) to project management and department management.
• Applies engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as foundation and steel structure design.
Qualifications
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year program
• GPA above a 3.0 preferred
• Experience using spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
• Familiar with basic engineering software and eager to learn, specifically SAP2000, STAAD, SAFE, RISA3D, PLS POLE, PLS TOWER, LPILE, FAD Tools, and MathCAD.
• Eligibility to take Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
• Legally able to work in the United States for any length of time
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English.
