Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Firmware Electrical Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. The RF and EW Threat Systems Development Department is a group of engineers who specialize in foreign threat radar systems, RF software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulators, and open-air radar development. The candidate selected for this position will support projects for the Defense Intelligence Community, Air Force, and large prime contractors.
Project assignments could be focused in one or multiple of the following areas:
Design, simulation, and testing of VHDL primarily to drive custom-developed and COTS hardware, such as VPX.
Testing and integration of RF electronics such as high-speed DACs used for waveform generation and ADCs used for signal processing
VHDL development with high-speed interfaces such as JESD204B, and GBe plus ethernet
Utilizing cutting-edge FPGA/RFSoC families and design tools
Signal processing domains in digital and analog
Working on multidisciplinary teams to debug problems when integrating VHDL for hardware platforms with software generated threat models in real time
Qualifications
Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Candidate must have 4+ years of related experience. MS degree in a relevant field can be used in lieu of 2 years of experience.
Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
Must have a solid background and understanding of VHDL development with high-speed interfaces
Experience with language variants, C, C++ or C#
Experience with development tracking tools such as Bitbucket and Jira.
Experience with scripting languages such as TCL and Python a plus
Testing and debugging hardware using lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes
Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama/Huntsville area or willing to relocate to the area.
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance.
Desired Skills
Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of radar fundamentals or any of the following tools: Xilinx design tools, Altera design tools, MATLAB.
ARM and AXI bus experience internal to FPGAs a plus.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
