The Mechanical Manufacturing Facility, at Leidos Inc, is seeking a talented Quality Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. The Quality Engineer will support mechanical manufacturing and assembly integration and testing for aerospace and defense manufacturing. Candidate will perform program quality planning, analyze program QA requirements, develop inspection/test procedures and process plans, finalize source inspection checklist, coordinate review nonconformance documentation and support root cause/corrective action. Other key duties include reviewing AS9102 FAI documentation, working with internal/external customers and other government quality assurance agencies. Collection and reporting of Quality Metrics, reviewing and approving new drawings, supporting project managers during design, manufacturing readiness reviews, PDR, CDR, APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA. Must possess strong problem-solving analytical skills.
Primary Responsibilities
List daily duties and/or specific job responsibilities.
- Establishes and implements metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring Quality Control system effectiveness.
- Leads root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
- Establishes collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality.
- Develops quality planning methods for all product lines within the plant.
- Interacts with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establish feedback with manufacturing and development personnel.
- Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the plant’s product lines.
- Reports to Quality Management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
- Participates in internal quality audits.
- Collaborates with DCMA and other government and/or customer quality assurance organizations.
- Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assures that effective corrective action is implemented.
- Review of RFQs and pending contracts for quality requirements. Participation in quoting and bidding processes to account for quality activities.
- All other reasonable duties, as assigned.
Basic Qualifications

- Must have a BS degree with 4-8 years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree with 2-6 years of prior relevant work experience. In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 8 years of experience in quality engineering under an AS9100 system or equivalent experience in DOD, Aerospace, or Automotive manufacturing quality control will be considered.
- Candidate must have experience working with non-conforming material, performing failure analysis, identifying root cause, and implementing corrective action.
- Candidate must have experience writing work instructions, procedures, and implementing QMS documentation associated with AS9100.
- Candidate must be able to review and interpret contract quality clauses and technical data and develop and document appropriate quality verification procedures, plans, and work instructions, including AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) is required.
- Candidate must be able to lift to 25 lbs.
- The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Candidates must be a resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to the area.
- Candidate must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Final Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
List additional skills and experience that is “nice to have” but not required.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure accurate inspection and compliance with design specifications.
- Five years of experience in QA/QC systems in a manufacturing and/or product-based environment.
- Experience in a QMS compliant with AS9100/ISO9001.
- Direct experience with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Quality Module implementation and management a plus.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
