What You Will Do
The primary purpose of this role is to effectively manage the ocean transportation of 130,000+ containers shipping from foreign ports to North America. This includes responsibility for negotiating ocean carrier contracts, securing vessel capacity, managing carrier allocations, and driving carrier service level performance. This leader plays an instrumental role supporting Lowe’s as the 4th largest importer in the US and this position is accountable for $500M in direct annual expense. The Manager of International Transportation will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing ocean transportation operations to best optimize capacity, service, and cost across 50+ origin ports flowing product inbound to 20+ ports in North America which ultimately service 70+ DC’s. This position is also responsible for air freight, landed costing, freight audit & pay, and on-time shipment performance. Leads ocean transportation operations including daily engagement with 3rd party supply chain management providers, ocean carriers, freight forwarders, and SaaS providers. Hires, manages, and develops international transportation team. Effectively communicates both internally and externally to cross functional business partners regarding the state of ocean transportation.
Responsibility Statements
•Procures int’l inbound carrier capacity including ocean and air freight
•Negotiates service contracts and service level agreements with providers
•Manages all core KPI’s for international ocean and air operations
•Supervises team of analysts planning and executing int’l transportation operations
•Provides the leadership to identify, resolve, and communicate the root cause of complex supply chain issues affecting Lowe’s vendors, import transportation, global sourcing, and inventory teams
•Manage flow of a diverse mix of products including GDSM, hazmat, and heavyweight cargo
•Develops strategies to improve capacity utilization, on-time performance, and landed cost
•Works in close partnership with origin cargo management and North America landside operations teams to ensure successful execution of the end-to-end supply chain
•Manages volume forecasting, carrier score carding, and KPI reporting
•Selects, develops, and retains talent to maximize team bench strength
What you Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree - Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain or related field
•7-10 years of experience in Supply Chain, Transportation or Logistics
•3 years’ leadership experience with direct report
Preferred Qualifications
•4 years’ transportation Management experience or equivalent
