The Large Project Digital Delivery Manager (LPDDM) is the person who leads and coordinates the development and management of large project models involving internal and external partners, multiple packages, multiple phases, and complex contractual arrangements to ensure high-performing and healthy models for the long-term success of the project team. This person will also ensure client-defined standards, as well as provide oversight for overall integration and workflow. This person must have strong Revit skills and understand how all platforms being used (as identified in the Project Execution Plan) are intended to work together.
The role of the LPDDM is critical not only in managing the technical aspects of the project models but also in fostering collaboration among team members and consultants ensuring alignment with project standards and goals set by both the internal team and the client.
This role is not only about technical expertise but also about project management, coordination, communication, The LPDDM role serves as a bridge between various stakeholders to ensure a seamless and effective digital delivery process.
In the role of Digital Delivery Lead, we'll count on you to:
Project Planning
- Participate in project pursuits and RFP review and responses regarding Digital Delivery.
- Contract review with project leadership to verify BIM deliverables are addressed
- Understand & Advise project management on BIM, technical planning, and workflow items.
- Work with project leadership, clients, and consultants to lead and develop the strategy for BIM execution.
- Generate and execute Digital Delivery Plan - (DDP)
- Identify the BIM Deliverables
- Coordinate and delivers models with other consultants (as per Digital Delivery Plan)
- Work with client or contractor representatives as required
- Identify the production team with the appropriate Revit skill set to execute the project.
- Project startup planning (work with individual Model Managers to ensure project success)
- Organizes project Digital Delivery coordination meetings and internal project meetings and to identify project tasks and resolve issues.
- Update, Revise and Communicate any changes to the BIM Execution Plan as the project progresses.Oversee and Provide guidance to all Model Managers and teams as required
Model Setup
- Create the Project Model Files (File management administration)
- Coordinate modeling strategy and workflows & processes with all Model Managers on the project team
Model(s) Set-Up Including:
- Geolocating of the project - (Verifying Site, Project Location)
- Establishing Shared Coordinates
- True/Project North
- Create /copy monitor Grids & Levels
- Assign the Project Base Point
- Set up and assist in maintaining Master Keynote File
- Input general project information
- Verify all views are assigned with appropriate View Template
- Enable Work-sharing
- Set up Work set strategy.
- Set up and assist in maintaining Master Keynote File
- Complete periodic Model Health Checks and maintain (overall) model integrity of all project models.
- Coordinate/mentor junior members of the modeling team
- Oversee the modeling team and work schedule.
- Set up Project Design Options. (As required)
- Set up Project Phasing. (As required)
Model Coordination & Review
- Work with colleagues and consultants to create a publishing or packaging schedule as required
- Ensure well-coordinated modeling efforts between offices/consultants when work-sharing with multiple offices/multiple disciplines
- Ensure staff has access to training in reference to BIM modeling process programs
- Work with staff to ensure REVIT library and REVIT families are created and updated as needed
- Continually research new and innovative processes to improve workflow efficiency, quality, production, and data use
- Verify Work Set strategy is being implemented throughout all models
- Lead weekly coordination meetings with consultants and model managers to identify project tasks and resolve issues while ensuring all BIM protocols are being adopted and applied
- Work with project leadership and model managers to set up Sheet/Drawing Coordination processes
- Develop a weekly “Desk set” PDF printing to show project progress (as required)
- Identify Data asset management (dRofus, etc.) requirements
Model Maintenance
- Ensure Model Maintenance is done on a weekly basis – coordinated with model managers
- Schedule weekly REVIT Warnings review to address the warnings in models
- Manage Links (checking for lost links or links from users’ desktops)
- Verify the Project Browser is organized to company standards
- Check the number of groups and verify that use of groups is limited
- Review the families loaded in the project, identifying non-standard families, and verifying content within them (is it a good family? Is it loaded from UNIFI, does it have all the parameters? etc.?)
- Check Filter and View Template naming conventions
- Verify that the Levels and Grids are pinned.
- Once a month perform an Audit, rebuild, and compact the model.
- Once a month purge the model – (Do Not Purge All, remove unused Groups, CAD files, missed named families and images
- Refresh the Central Model File (as required)
- Removing unused sections, reference planes, line types.
- Compact the model
Project Milestones
- Have an extensive knowledge of BIM modeling, CAD, design development, construction documents, technical and engineering knowledge
- Act as the intermediary between designers, clients, and architects so that modeling efforts remain efficient and effective throughout the life of the project to facilitate project delivery
- Ensure staff have access to the tools and equipment they need to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Work closely with project management to ensure all BIM users and staff have adequate modeling skill sets
