Description: Drive tractor-trailers and other vehicles to pick up parts, assemblies, hazardous and nonhazardous
materials and equipment from Division loading points and delivered to various destinations, normally
via fixed routes.
Vary routes when size of shipments or other conditions necessitate detours.
Visually inspect material and equipment to be transported for damage and verify quantities against
accompanying paperwork.
Select best method to load, unload, separate and secure materials to be transported and delivered
following guidelines and specific government regulations.
Check cargo before departure for proper distribution within trailer, or on flatbed, and insure that
heavy or odd shaped equipment or material is correctly positioned insecurely strapped or tied down
to avoid shifting and damage.
Make sure all government regulations related to hazardous materials movement are followed.
Spread and tie down tarpaulin as required on open loads to protect cargo from inclement weather. Make regular local and distant trips as required.
Prepare and maintain all required paperwork and reports including drivers log to record all trips,
showing destinations, mileage and time required.
Make minor emergency repairs on road trips.
Promptly prepare reports on involvement in any accident or development of mechanical difficulties
with vehicle.
May operate trucks with snowplow attachments clear snow from flight field, Company roads and
parking areas.
May occasionally perform material handling duties in shipping and receiving areas as required to
load and unload vehicles.
As directed, operate Van, station wagon or passenger car to transport personnel to specify
destinations.
Perform operator checklist as required.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator required upkeep.
Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Refer only unusual conditions to supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires ability to read and understand shipping and receiving forms, route maps, and other required paperwork. Must hold valid CDL motor vehicle
operator's license, and have a knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) regulations and governing laws and regulations for equipment, conditions, load identification and licensing pertaining to operation of tractor-trailers.
