Officer position responsible for providing technical direction for loss cost management, and large loss oversight and outcomes across Commercial Casualty, Specialty, International & EMTC. Formulates strategic priorities and operational objectives for technical claims management and/or processes, in accordance with the strategic direction and priorities of the company and Claims organization. Position also responsible for driving operational effectiveness and consistency in practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Drives implementation of strategic and operational priorities with significant impact on the short-term success of technical claims management for Commercial Casualty and Specialty to achieve superior total claim outcome and moderate impact on the long-term success of the organization.
Provides strategic leadership and tactical guidance to senior executive management of Commercial Casualty and Specialty, cultivating a culture of excellence. Champions CNA with an expert level of understanding of the organization’s differentiating position in the industry, CNA’s products and services, as well as a working knowledge and understanding of competitor’s products and services.
Develops and implements disciplined expectations and processes for claim evaluations and litigation management to improve timeliness and accuracy of case reserving, quality of claim outcomes, and effectiveness of legal expense management.
Develops and implements strategies to mitigate the risks associated with rising costs and increased legal verdict volatility across the liability claims portfolio for Commercial and Specialty claims.
Provides expert level technical oversight of high exposure Commercial Casualty and Specialty claims, International claims and EMTC claims.
May lead, directly or indirectly, and have accountability for area of responsibility with an emphasis on technical excellence, action planning and execution of strategic priorities.
Drives for a superior customer experience and continuous improvement through the development and implementation of corporate initiatives involving human capital, processes, and technology.
Identifies emerging issues and trends that may have substantial impact on CNA profitability and business results.
Collaborates with Underwriting, Risk Control and Actuarial to ensure knowledge sharing on latest trends, market trends, legal changes, and loss reserving. Regularly reports on loss trends and exposures to internal and external business partners.
Remains knowledgeable of current state/territory regulations and issues, industry activities and trends. May represent company in industry trade groups.
Create and drive efficiencies throughout the Global Claim organization.
Act as an organizational leader by being an active participant in the Extended Claim Leadership Team (ECLT).
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Mastery of insurance claims principles (legal, operations, practices, and procedures) and broad understanding of the critical issues in other related areas.
Articulate and leverage comprehensive business strategy that incorporates Claims-wide perspective; effectively “stakeholder” key leaders to gain diversity of perspective, buy-in and support.
Develop innovative, dynamic solutions and proven ability to execute.
Mastery of a multi-line casualty and specialty claim practices and coverages and operating models and broad understanding of the critical issues in other related areas, i.e., industry strategies and practices for social inflation, litigation funding, tort reform and other cost mitigation strategies.
Strong leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
Extensive TPA and Multi-National experience both out-sourcing and in-sourcing
Proven ability to drive results by identifying and resolving significant problems within scope of responsibility.
Expert level knowledge of the insurance industry, its products, and services.
Advanced understanding and usage of data analytics tools Work well independently and as part of a team.
Advanced executive communication and facilitation skills, both written and verbal – with ability to influence, and develop and maintain collaborative relationships at all levels within the organization and with external partners.
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Business Administration strongly preferred.
Juris Doctorate with 20 plus years of experience as a Claims Casualty leader with a global insurance carrier
Multiple years of leadership experience in industry associations such as International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and the American Property Casualty Insurance Association. Experience as Chair, Co-Chair, or Board of Directors strongly preferred.
Global Casualty Claims experience with concentration in Canada, Europe, and the U.S.
