Key Responsibilities
Determines safety precautions and requirements for task
Prepares worksite; performs lock-out/tag-out
Gathers tools and spare parts for task
Uses tools safely; checks condition of tools prior to using; uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Performs tasks as directed by more experienced mechanic, as indicated with work instructions and/or with
mentor oversight (if applicable)
Evaluates condition of equipment; recognizes potential for breakdown in the near future and recommends preemptive
action
Seeks assistance from a more experienced mechanic if equipment needs to be repaired
Changes out equipment batteries; charges unused or dead batteries
Keeps batteries in good condition; washes/cleans battery trays
Leaves worksite in good and safe condition; tests eye washer, emergency shower; changes battery wash water;
keeps acid pans beneath batteries clean
Turns in unused spare parts
Documents condition of equipment as found, work performed, spare parts used, and any other applicable
documentation
Closes out work orders and Preventative Maintenance (PM) requests
Enters data into 7I system (computerized maintenance management system)
Performs rack repairs

Provides status of incomplete tasks bridging the two shifts
Attends and participates in training as scheduled
Demonstrates positive and effective interactions with maintenance customers
Assists Mechanics with preventive maintenance tasks or repairs
Assists Mechanics with fabrication and insulation of projects
Attends and participate in training as scheduled. Continues to increase skill in one of the three work areas
(building, conveyor, and rolling stock) and learns and develops a working knowledge of the repair methods.
These areas include the following maintenance systems: (1) Conveyor systems, controls, and subsystems, (2)
Industrial Electrical Systems, (3) Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), (4) Fire Suppression systems,
(5) Welding and Fabrication, (6) Plumbing and Carpentry (Physical plant-type construction and repairs), (7) Fork
Lift, Material Handling, and Rolling Stock systems, including subsystems and components of the equipment, (8)
Preventive maintenance technologies; Note: Some states have specific regulations concerning this type of work,
and those regulations will supersede the training noted here if applicable
