Caterpillar Inc. seeks Development & Research Engineering Specialist at its facility located at 6800 Doerr LN, Shertz, TX 78154.
Serve as an experienced, individual contributor on complex drivetrain and hydraulic components machining research and development projects and assignments that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability. Seek discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explain variances. Organize and prioritize step sequences to remedy the situation. Identify possible causes for problems based on prior experience and current research. Quantify the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success before recommending courses of action. Approach complex problems by breaking it down into its component parts. Evaluate past decisions for insights to improve decision-making process. Assess and validate decision options and points and predict their potential impact. Advise others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives. Use effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus. Adapt documents and presentations for the intended audience. Use knowledge of given technology and various application methods; develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Utilize preferred tools, techniques, and methods for estimating project cost and time. Identify risks and vulnerabilities; create contingency plans. Maintain open communication among project participants and interested parties. Use knowledge of organizational standards, procedures, and policies in manufacturing activities; plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance. Use product testing approaches, techniques, and tools; design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing. Predict industry and marketplace trends; explore new methods and technologies. Consult on product-testing costs, tools, approaches, and benefits. Use troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. Evaluate business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution. Resolve difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.
REQS: This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience as a Machining Manufacturing Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or related occupation in the field of Hydraulics, CNC programming, and tool design. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Mazak CNC machine programming; (2) Okuma CNC machine programming; (3) New Capital Introduction, New Product Introduction, and NX CAM programming; (4) AutoCAD; (5) Hydraulics components and systems, such as creation of work instructions, cutting tool research, machine tool research, and tool fixture design; and (6) APQP fundamentals such as control plans and PFMEA.
Travel Requirements: 20% domestic travel required to review project status and consult with facility counterparts.
