JOB SUMMARY
Develop and manage relationships and communications with consumer and trade media and place information/stories about Spectrum in news mediums. Identify and initiate action to positively promote Spectrum’s products, services and leaders to improve consumer and industry perception of Spectrum. Work closely with all functional areas at the corporate and regional communications levels to maximize media attention for Spectrum. Serve as a trusted communications advisor for operational business leaders and subject matter experts.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and implement comprehensive communications strategies for Spectrum’s corporate business functions and initiatives;
- Manage corporate awards process for trade press awards;
- Collaborate with other departments to generate media strategies and track results for new and existing initiatives;
- Write, edit and distribute press releases and media alerts;
- Pitch proactive coverage and also field press inquiries for corporate initiatives;
- Build and maintain national and trade media lists; monitor traditional press and social media coverage, create press summary reports, and assist with the preparation and distribution of clips reports as needed;
- Establish and cultivate strong working relationships with key trade, vertical and national media contacts;
- Inject a “storytelling perspective” into Spectrum's communications strategy, particularly through finding and crafting stories that personalize and promote Spectrum's corporate initiatives;
- Research communication possibilities for diverse media opportunities (e.g. print publications, websites, online and social media, etc.);
- Other duties as requested by Supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Effective writing and editing skills;
- Ability to independently prioritize key projects and identify roadblocks;
- Eagerness to actively form strong relationships with key reporters;
- Confidence in communicating with all levels of management and company personnel;
- Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality;
- Capacity to produce multiple materials and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure;
- Knowledge of television, Internet, wireless and phone products and services, as well as those of our competitors in industry.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent experience.
REQUIRED RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE AND NUMBER OF YEARS
- 5+ years of experience in a Communications related position, preferably in a high-volume environment like an agency or corporate office.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office environment with 4-1 hybrid work schedule;
- Occasional travel as required.
